Military Tuition Benefits

Current and former military members can receive tuition benefits at Weber State University. The Office of the Bursar is responsible for tracking and applying all military tuition educational benefits.

Students apply for military benefits through the Military-Affiliated Student Center. The center will then "memo" the amount of a student’s anticipated benefit funding for the semester.

You will need to provide your semester student class schedule to the Military-Affiliated Student Center for certification by the tuition payment deadline, which is generally the Friday before classes begin. Students may be assessed a late fee if their paperwork is submitted to the Military-Affiliated Student Center after payment deadline.

Tuition and fees are due the Friday before classes start each semester, so students should submit their military benefit application early to avoid delays or late fees. Updates about account changes are sent to a student’s WSU email account.

The Military-Affiliated Student Center can help provide assistance to veterans and military-affiliated students as they utilize their educational and tuition assistance benefits.

The Cashier's Office will provide invoicing and payment support.

Military Sponsored Students

If you are being sponsored by the Department of Defense (DOD) under one of the branches of the military, you will need to turn in a copy of your Tuition Assistance (TA) form to the Cashier’s Office or to sponsor@weber.edu by the tuition payment deadline.

Students may be assessed a late fee if the form is submitted after the tuition payment deadline.

Policy Information for Students Receiving Military Tuition Assistance

Weber State’s policies are designed to comply with 38 USC 3679(e) requirements.

Delayed Tuition Assistance Disbursements

Without regard to any other policy or procedure, WSU will not impose any penalty, including the assessment of late fees, the denial of access to classes, libraries, or other institutional facilities, or the requirement that a covered individual borrow additional funds, on any covered individual because of the individual’s inability to meet his or her financial obligations to the institution due to the delayed disbursement of a payment to be provided by any military tuition assistance under chapter 31 [1] 33, or 35. If there are questions or concerns, please contact the Military-Affiliated Student Center.

Returning Unearned Tuition Assistance funds to Government

Weber State’s tuition refund policies are designed to comply with DoDI 1322.25 requirements.

Without regard to the university's tuition and fee refund schedule, military tuition assistance is awarded to a student under the assumption the student will attend school for the entire semester for which the assistance is awarded. Weber State has a policy that returns any unearned tuition assistance (TA) funds on a proportional basis through at least the 60% portion of the period for which the funds were awarded (such as the point where 60% of the semester has been completed.

TA funds are earned proportionally during an enrollment period, with unearned funds returned based upon when a student stops attending. In instances when a service member stops attending due to a military service obligation, Weber State will work with the affected service member to identify solutions that will not result in a student debt for the returned portion.

WSU’s Schedule for Return of Unearned TA funds to the Government.

Weber State’s tuition return policy for full semester registration is a 100% refund when withdrawing from classes in the first seven days of the semester, a 90% refund for days 8-14, and an 80% refund for days 15-21.

After 21 days, and through the 60% point of the time period (such as a semester) when funds are distributed, there is a 75% refund of TA funds.

There will be no refund past the 60% point of the time period (such as a semester) when funds are distributed. Invoicing and refunds to the government begin after the first 21 days of the semester.

Additionally, military students can file a financial petition to have all tuition and fee obligations waived due to a military service obligation, regardless of the drop date.

Military Tuition FAQ

Do I need to turn in a Tuition Assistance (TA) Form?

Air Force, Army, Commanding Officer, MyCAA, and Utah Guard all have Tuition Assistance (TA) forms that must be turned in before the semester starts to avoid late fees. Go to the Military-Affiliated Student Center website and click on the “SUBMIT TA/MYCAA FORMS” button to submit your forms.

Will my anticipated benefits cover my entire semester balance?

Students should ask the Military-Affiliated Student Center if their funding will cover their entire balance for a semester. Often, military funding does not pay for electronic course material or class fees.

To avoid late fees, make sure your funding covers the entire balance. If a student’s funding is not going to cover 100% of their charges, they should make alternative arrangements to cover the remaining balance in order to avoid fees.
