Adrian L Maxson Scholarship for Social Justice 

   

Cody Ray Odekirk Humanitarian Scholarship 

Picture of Adrian MaxsonAdrian Leigh Maxson was passionate about people, social injustice, humanitarian movements, art, and learning.  A senior at the DaVinci Academy of Science and the Arts in Ogden and an early college freshman at Weber State University, Adrian was killed in an auto-pedestrian accident after attending a benefit concert for Amnesty International at University Village.

In honor of his life and his activism, the Adrian Maxson Scholarship has been established at Weber State University for students who are engaged politically, socially and creatively in the community.

   

Picture of Cody OdekirkCody Ray Odekirk was committed to the spirit of service.  Since a young age, Cody was an active volunteer at a myriad of nonprofit organizations in the community such as Red Cross, Boys and Girls Club and Youth impact to name a few. Cody was a sophmore student at Weber State University when he was killed in an airplane accident on his way to build a school in Guatemala with Choice Humanitarian. 

In honor of his life and humanitarian heart, the Cody Ray Odekirk Scholarship has been established at Weber State University for students who are engaged in the spirit of service locally and internationally

 Application Requirements      Application Requirements

Applicants may be incoming or current WSU students in any field of study.

Applicants must be full-time students (12-18 credits).

Recipients of previous Adrian Maxson Scholarships are eligible to re-apply each year.

Students who graduated from the Da Vinci Academy of Science and the Arts in Ogden are encouraged to apply. 

Applicants must demonstrate their commitment to social justice through, but not limited to, advocacy and political activism either locally, nationally or globally.

Applicants must also identify plans for continued efforts to create peace, justice and humanitarian treatment of all people.

   

Applicants may be incoming or current WSU students in any field of study.

Applicants must be full-time students (12-18 credits) with a minimum of 3.0 GPA.

Applicants must demonstrate financial need. This will be assessed through the results of the FAFSA.

Recipients of previous Cody Odekirk Scholarships are eligible to re-apply each year.

Applicants must demonstrate a history of participation in local, national or global humanitarian projects and active community service.

Applicants must also identify plans for continued volunteer involvement.

 Application Instructions

 To be considered for Weber State University scholarships, applicants will need to submit the online scholarship application.  Log in to your student portal, click the "Student Services" tab, and then click the "Scholarship Application" link on the left side of the page.

After submitting the online WSU scholarship application, submit the following to the Community Involvement Center:

  • Resume with the applicant's educational background and community/volunteer involvement
  • Brief essay describing the applicant's qualifications for the award as stated in the Application Requirements above

Applicants who wish to be considered for both scholarships must address the scholarship criteria for both scholarships in the essay.  Applicants need only submit one set of documents.
