HIEEs Pay

Earn while you learn! Weber State University (WSU) is committed to providing transformative experiences for undergraduate students and creating access to these experiences. The HIEEs Pay program removes barriers for students to participate in high impact educational experiences (HIEEs). These experiences help WSU students achieve their educational and professional goals and better prepare them for future opportunities.

Under the HIEEs Pay program, students earn $11.75 per hour and can earn up to $1,500.

Once approved, eligible HIEEs Pay students can log hours in TAS Time Clock from the first day of the semester until the last day. Hours cannot be logged in between semesters.

Applications for the Summer and Fall 2026 semesters are now open. To join the program, please follow the steps outlined in the "HIEEs Pay Process" below.

• Community Engaged Learning (CEL)

  The Center for Community Engaged Learning (CCEL) is more than just volunteering; it's an opportunity to apply what you're learning in the classroom to real-world social issues. These programs will help you grow as an engaged citizen, develop leadership skills, and make meaningful contributions to your community. 

   

  Ways to Get Involved with HIEEs Pay

  Alternative Breaks Program: Want to do something meaningful with your spring break? Join Alternative Breaks, where you’ll travel locally or internationally to engage in direct service trips focused on issues like history, poverty, environmental justice, education, and more. These immersive experiences allow you to step outside your comfort zone, work alongside diverse communities, and develop a deeper understanding of the root causes of social challenges. It’s more than travel—it’s transformation. You’ll gain cultural awareness, reflect deeply on service, and return with stronger teamwork skills, empathy, and purpose.

   

  Pathways Fellows Program: If you care about social issues and want to help make positive change, this program is for you. As a Pathways Fellow, you’ll work with community organizations, plan service projects, and attend training sessions that teach you how to lead and make a difference. You’ll learn more about your community, grow as a leader, and prepare for jobs or grad school in fields like nonprofit work, government, or social services.

• Global Learning Experiences (GLB)

  Global Learning Experiences connect you to the world, taking your education to an international level. In the HIEEs Pay program, students have a chance to work as mentors for international students. These programs will help you build valuable skills like cultural understanding, communication,  teamwork, and help to create a sense of belonging.

   

  Ways to Get Involved with HIEEs Pay

  Global Ambassador Program: In this program, domestic students or international students with a few years’ experience in the U.S. are paired with international exchange students to provide guidance, support, and a sense of belonging during their time at Weber State University in Ogden. Students must apply by the second week of classes; late applications will not be considered. Selected students must be available to work up to 30 hours per semester.

  International Peer Mentor Program: As an International Peer Mentor, current international students will help new international students adjust to life at Weber State. Mentors meet regularly with mentees, guide them in using campus resources, share tips on study skills and communication, and encourage participation in campus life. They track progress, answer questions, and connect mentees to events and opportunities to help them feel welcome and supported.

• Internship (INT)

  Internships give you real-world experience, apply what you’ve learned in class, and build skills that employers and graduate programs are looking for. Through the HIEEs Pay program, you can get paid for doing an internship! You must already have an internship to join the HIEEs Pay Internship program. If you need help finding an internship, please contact the Internship office (internships@weber.edu). International students are welcome to apply if they are in their second year at WSU. If you are an international freshman student, you must wait to apply until you have completed one academic year at WSU. 

   

  Ways to Get Involved with HIEEs Pay

  Non-credit internships: These internships are not tied to a class but still give you great experience. You might find them through Career Services, your professors, or on your own. 

  For Credit internships: These internships are taken for academic credit and are usually arranged through your major. They include faculty supervision, learning goals, and regular check-ins or reports.

• Leadership

  Leadership experiences help you build important skills like teamwork, confidence, and problem-solving. You can build these skills through two HIEEs Pay leadership programs offered by the Student Leadership and Involvement Team here at WSU.  

   

  Ways to Get Involved with HIEEs Pay

  Leadership Development Class (Fall and Spring Semesters Only): The Student Leadership Development Series is a semester-long class, it will be offered during the Spring 2026 semester on Tuesdays at 1:00pm. In this class, you’ll explore different leadership styles, build practical skills, and reflect on your own growth as a leader. It’s a great way to prepare for leadership roles on campus, in your future career, and in your community. You’ll build confidence, meet new people, and gain real leadership experience. 

  Summer Outdoor Leadership Series (Summer Semester Only): Unleash your inner leader while exploring Ogden's stunning outdoors! Rock climb, bike, kayak, and more, all while gaining invaluable leadership skills. The HIEEs Pay Outdoor Leadership Series offers unique adventures and personal growth. Discover your potential through hands-on experiences and reflections. 

• Mentoring (MENT)

  Mentoring is a personalized experience that encourages growth and learning for both the mentor and mentee. Open to all students at any stage of their college journey, mentorship offers a unique opportunity to build meaningful, one-on-one connections. Mentors and mentees gain skills like leadership, team work, critical thinking, communication, and more. 

   

  Ways to Get Involved with HIEEs Pay

  Be a mentor: Students already working as a mentor in the Peer Mentor Program or in select college mentoring programs (including the College of Engineering, Applied Science & Technology and the College of Social Sciences & Education) are eligible to be paid through HIEEs Pay for their mentoring work. Mentors gain valuable leadership, critical thinking, and communication skills while building connections with students and staff on campus.

  Be a mentee: Students who want to learn from a peer mentor or a faculty/staff mentor are eligible to be paid for their participation! Participating students are expected to attend meetings, work on goals, and be actively involved in the mentoring process. Mentees will learn from their mentors, build a community on campus,  and "find their brilliance" at WSU.

  Become a HIEE Ambassador: Students who have previously participated in a HIEEs Pay program and are interested in helping other students navigate HIEEs are welcome to apply. Ambassadors will gain leadership, team-building, and communication skills by working with their HIEE area to support students through their WSU and HIEEs Pay experiences.

• Sustainability (SUS)

  Through the Sustainability program, you will learn more about being an active participant in your community and in the environment around you. You will also learn important skills like leadership, teamwork, critical thinking, and professionalism. 

   

  Ways to Get Involved with HIEEs Pay

  Zero Waste Athletics: Support Weber State's zero-waste goals by volunteering at select Weber State University athletic games to help sort waste and educate fans. It’s a hands-on way to learn about sustainable systems and teamwork right here on campus.

  Green Badge Program: Get involved on campus and join sustainability focused activities like learning about sustainability efforts on campus, participating in fun events, and volunteering! Not only will you build your on-campus network with new friends and mentors, but you will earn badges to show off your progress. Students are paid for participation. 

  Resident Sustainability Leaders: Do you live on campus? Become a Resident Sustainability Leader and help make your dorm community greener. This leadership role helps build communication, problem-solving, and teamwork skills while you help people in your on-campus community learn about being green! 

  Sustainability Club Leadership: Take on a leadership role with one of the Sustainable Clubs (Environmental Ambassadors, Garden Club, or Food Recovery Network) to create real change on campus. Help plan events, lead service projects, and collaborate with other student groups. *Opportunities are available based on position openings. • Undergraduate Research - Course-Based Research Experience (CRE)

  Have you had experience presenting your findings at a national conference or seeing your name in a scholarly publication? Have you received an undergraduate research grant and completed a project? The HIEEs Pay program helps students share these research experiences with peers who are just getting started in undergraduate research. By participating, you support a culture of discovery while strengthening your communication, leadership, and mentoring skills.

  Ways to Get Involved with HIEEs Pay

  Undergraduate Research Ambassadors: Gain hands-on leadership and presenting experience while mentoring and educating students who are interested in getting involved in undergraduate research. As an ambassador, you will lead events, build professional connections, and engage directly with students while sharing your own research experiences. You will also have the opportunity to attend and assist at OUR events such as the Research & Engagement Symposium, celebratory luncheons, and Research Cafes. These experiences provide meaningful ways to work closely with faculty and university leadership while supporting the undergraduate research community.

  Students who wish to apply to the HIEEs Pay program must have participated in at least one of the following Undergraduate Research programs: the Undergraduate Research Grant, the Research Fellows Program, the Summer Undergraduate Research Opportunity Program, CRE-designated courses, or by presenting at the Research and Engagement Symposium.

HIEEs Pay Frequently Asked Questions

• What if I already have a job on campus?

  Students employed on campus can participate in HIEEs Pay but cannot exceed 20 hours per week of combined on-campus employment, including HIEEs Pay hours. If you are already employed on campus for 20 hours weekly, please contact us for ways to participate in HIEEs Pay and Wildcat Advantage.

• I’m an international student. Can I still participate?

  Yes. Please contact the International Student & Scholar Center regarding employment authorization on campus.

• Do I have to fill out FAFSA to qualify?

  All U.S. citizens must complete FAFSA to qualify for HIEEs Pay. If you are an international student, you can still participate in HIEEs Pay; you do not need to complete FAFSA.

• I forgot to clock in. What do I do?

  HIEEs Pay participants must clock in and out through the Time Attendance System (TAS), and verify hours bi-weekly in your HIEEs Pay canvas course. If you need assistance with your TAS time entry, contact your HIEE supervisor (found via the "Contact" button on the HIEEs Pay Canvas page) with the date, time in, time out, total hours for your timecard and the reason you cannot log hours into TAS.

• Can I get paid for a HIEE not currently listed under HIEEs Pay?

  No, the only HIEEs students are eligible to be paid for are listed above.
