Advantages

  • Free platform:Google Sites is completely free with any Google account.
  • Beginner‑friendly: No coding required; drag‑and‑drop editor.
  • Integrates with Google Drive: Easily embed Docs, Slides, Sheets, Forms, YouTube, Maps, and more.
  • Unlimited pages/sites: You can create as many Sites and pages as you want.
  • Simple artifact embedding: Upload or embed files directly from Drive.
  • Accessible from any device: Sites automatically adjusts to desktop, tablet, and mobile.

Disadvantages

  • Limited storage: Sites uses your Google Drive storage space which is limited.
  • Limited customization: Fewer design options compared to other platforms.

Directions for getting started

  1. Open an incognito window or open a different browser than the one you normally use for Weber.
  2. Login into Google using a personal email (not your student email)
  3. Right-click the "Get Template" link.
  4. Choose copy the link address
  5. Pasted the copy link address into the browser you logged into with your personal email
  6. Click “⋮” next to the file
  7. Click “Make a Copy” to add the template to your drive.
  8. Follow the instructions in the template and "View Example" to make your ePortfolio
  9. If you see Request Access, start again — you do not need access when using your personal account.

How to Build

  • Open Google Sites: Go to sites.google.com while logged into your personal Google account.
  • Choose a template: Select the copied student template from your Drive, or start from a blank site.
  • Edit the existing pages: Use the Pages tab to see each page for its specific instructions and update the content.
  • Replace placeholders: Swap out images and text with your own content (or delete anything you don’t need).
  • Add artifacts: Use Insert to add Google Docs, Slides, PDFs, images, and videos that show your work.
  • Adjust design: Pick a theme, keep it clean and simple, and make sure everything is easy to read.
  • Preview and publish: Use Preview, then click Publish and set sharing options before you share your link.

Sharing Options

Google Sites allows you to share either your entire ePortfolio or individual pages, depending on what you need.

  • Full site link (entire ePortfolio)  
    • Make sure your site is Published → go to the About Me page → click the Link icon (chain symbol) → copy the link.
    • This link opens your full published site.
  • Individual page/project links  
    • Make sure your site is Published → go to the specific page you want to share → click the Link icon (chain symbol)  → copy the link.
    • Each published page has its own unique link.
