Arizona Radiography Programs

Weber State University’s School of Radiologic Sciences partners with clinical sites in Arizona to offer radiography programs that advance students’ careers and education in radiologic sciences.

APPLICATION INFORMATION

The two programs have different application requirements and timelines. 

The PTR program application window is Nov. 1-March 1 annually, with classes starting each fall semester.

PTR to RT Degree Completion program applications are accepted from Sept. 1-Nov. 1 each year, with classes starting each summer semester.

PROGRAM COST

Tuition is $3,450 per semester.

Clinical site organizations may offer additional scholarships. Details will be emailed to eligible students.  

The Arizona Practical Technologist in Radiography (PTR) certificate program is not eligible for federal financial aid.

CLINICAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

Both programs require students to complete 24 hours of clinical education per week. These are unpaid, dedicated student clinical hours. Students must arrange a clinical site for their clinical education. 

Upon approval from the site, students must provide the site's contact information to Weber State in order to set up affiliation agreements between WSU and the clinical site. The affiliation agreement must be established prior to beginning clinical education.

The Arizona PTR to RT Degree Completion (AAS) program requires that a rotation to a hospital is available to satisfy operating room (OR), fluoroscopy (Fluoro), and trauma requirements as part of your clinical education requirements. 

If you are already working at a site that will allow you to complete clinical education there, include a written letter from the clinic, stating that the clinic is allowing the student to work at the facility, with your application.

ARIZONA PRACTICAL TECHNOLOGIST IN RADIOGRAPHY (PTR)

The Arizona PTR certificate program is a two-semester program that combines classroom instruction and clinical education, and prepares students to obtain their Practical Technologist in Radiology (PTR) certification in Arizona. 

Classes are taught in a hybrid format. Students have in-person classes three times per semester and classes on Zoom the rest of the time.

To meet Arizona state requirements R12-2-202, students must complete a minimum of 210 hours of didactic training and 480 hours of clinical training in a 6-24 month period to be able to apply for licensure and sit for their licensure exam. The PTR certificate program fulfills both requirements.

Upon passing the PTR exam, you may apply for state licensure as a limited practical technologist in radiology (PTR) in Arizona. This provides the opportunity to advance your career in a variety of outpatient facilities, urgent cares, and clinics.

PTR students can take classes in this program that will also be credited toward an Associate of Applied Science in Radiography (AAS) degree through WSU, should the student want to obtain the AAS.

    A high school diploma or equivalent, such as a GED, is required.

ARIZONA PTR TO RT DEGREE COMPLETION (AAS)

The Arizona PTR to RT Degree Completion (AAS) program is a three-semester program that allows licensed or certified limited practical technologists in radiology (PTR) to earn their Associate of Applied Science in Radiography.

This program prepares students for the Radiologic Technologist Examination through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT), and prepares students to work as a radiologic technologist or radiographer.

The program begins in the summer semester, and is delivered in a hybrid format, involving online coursework, clinical hours, and face-to-face class sessions in the Glendale, Arizona area once per month each semester.

  • Prerequisites

    Applicants must submit documentation of a Certificate in Practical Technologist in Radiology (PTR) when applying.

    Applicants must complete all of the following courses before applying to/starting the program.

    Science Option 1

    Science Option 2

    • HTHS 2110 LS: Integrated Human Anatomy and Physiology I (4)

    If you do not already have an associate’s degree prior to starting the Arizona PTR to RT Degree Completion (AAS) program, you will need to complete the following general education courses, or their equivalent, before applying to/starting the program.
