Whether you’re already a journeyperson or an apprentice or you’re just starting your apprenticeship training, your work schedule is pretty busy. Although you’d like to get a college degree--because it could mean getting a higher-paying job--you feel like you just don’t have the time.
Good news! You're actually closer to a college degree than you think.
By adding just eight classes—23 credit hours—to the apprenticeship training you’re in now or the training you have already completed, you can now earn an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree through a new program offered by Weber State University.
So take your apprenticeship further. When you get that promotion or land that superintendent job, you'll be glad you did.

The AAS in Apprenticeship program combines the apprenticeship classes taken through your ATC with classes in English, writing, math, computer applications, leadership and others, taken through WSU. (See weber.edu/apprenticeship)
You can begin your classes at WSU at any time, as long as you’re already an apprentice or you’re completing your apprenticeship training. Just follow these steps:
To Begin:
- Register for an apprenticeship class at your local ATC if you’re not already a
journeyperson or an apprentice. - Apply to WSU at weber.edu/admissions and list AAS in Apprenticeship as your program
of study. - Register for WSU classes after you're accepted into the AAS program.

To Get Your AAS Degree:
- Complete all the required classes at your local ATC and WSU. (see a list of WSU required classes)
- Provide one of the following to WSU before you graduate:
- State of Utah Journeyperson License.
- Certificate of Completion from the Office of Apprenticeship (also known as the Bureau
of Apprenticeship and Training, or BAT). - Certificate of Proficiency from an ATC offering the Office of Apprenticeship-certified
program.
