NEW Design-Build, and Project Management - Camp Walt Whitman, Summer 26' opportunity - New Hampshire
Architectural Design
Camp Walt Whitman in New Hampshire reaching out to share a unique summer opportunity that offers your students hands-on experience in design-build, and project management to work in our woodshop.
Camp Walt Whitman is a premier, co-ed traditional sleep-away camp located in the White Mountains. Our woodshop and creative studios serve as a laboratory for young makers, and for Summer 2026, we are looking for architecture students to help lead these spaces.
This role provides a practical, real-world environment for students to apply design principles while gaining valuable "soft skills" essential for a career in architecture:
-
Design-Build Execution: Students move beyond the studio to manage the lifecycle of projects, from initial concept and drafting to material selection and physical construction.
-
Project Management & Safety: Managing a shop environment requires a high level of organization, tool safety oversight, and logistics—skills that translate directly to job site management.
-
Creative Mentorship: Leading and developing campers ages 8–15 requires the ability to communicate complex structural ideas in an accessible way, fostering a foundation in leadership and collaborative communication.
-
Portfolio Enhancement: This experience demonstrates a candidate’s ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment and their commitment to community-focused design and youth development.
We are seeking individuals who are passionate about the building process and eager to inspire a sense of craft in the next generation. If you have any students who would be a good fit for this role, please feel free to
share my contact information or direct them to our website to learn more.
Working at camp provides hands-on experience in:
-
Leadership and mentorship
-
Communication and group management
-
Time management and organization
-
Creativity and adaptability
-
Conflict resolution and problem-solving
-
Initiative and professional responsibility
We are actively recruiting throughout the coming months and interviewing candidates on a rolling basis. Students can learn more about Camp Walt Whitman and see what it’s like to work here by visiting our website and watching our camp video. We offer full room & board, a competitive salary, and travel stipend. Dates depend on positions and could start as early as June 11th and end August 9th. We do have flexibility on dates.
Students are welcome to reach out directly with any questions to matt@campwalt.com.
