Bachelor of Science in Radiation Therapy

Radiation therapists administer targeted doses of radiation to the patient’s body to treat cancer or other diseases. As the radiation strikes human tissue, it produces highly energized ions that gradually shrink and destroy the nuclei of malignant tumor cells.

Students pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Radiation Therapy will learn about patient care, simulation procedures, dosimetry, treatment devices, radiation treatment procedures, cancer (pathology, detection and diagnosis, imaging, pharmacology, etc.) and much more.

PROGRAM PREREQUISITES


Applicants may apply to the program while completing their associate’s degree and/or ARRT certification, but these must be completed before the program start date.

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS


Students must complete all required nuclear medicine coursework and general education coursework to earn a Bachelor of Science in Radiation Therapy.

Students are also required to complete 24 hours of clinical education per week in a WSU-affiliated healthcare facility for this program.

LOCATION AND DELIVERY

For the Campus Program, classes are held once per month at WSU in Ogden, Utah, and/or virtually on Zoom.

Campus and Regional programs are completed in three straight semesters, beginning each fall.

CLINICAL SITE INFORMATION

Campus Program students residing in Utah are assigned to clinical sites in Utah. 

Regional Program students residing outside of Utah must secure their own clinical site.

CERTIFICATION

Upon completion of the program, students can take the national certification examination given by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).

States often require practicing technologists to be licensed. Utah requires radiologic technologists to be licensed by the state.
