A Joyful Start: Red Apple Opening Ceremony Welcomes Future Teachers
The energy was high and the smiles were bright as this year’s group of pre-service teachers gathered for the annual Red Apple Opening Ceremony. This special event marks the beginning of their journey into the teaching profession.
The ceremony began with a warm welcome from the College of Social Sciences and Education Dean Julie Rich, and the Teacher Education department chair, Ryan Cain. The pre-service teachers were then introduced to the faculty who would guide and mentor them throughout their studies. One of the highlights of the evening was the alumni panel. Current teachers—graduates of the same program—shared their experiences from the classroom, offering both inspiration and practical advice. Their stories painted a picture of teaching that was honest, hopeful, and filled with heart.
The celebration concluded with a symbolic moment: each pre-service teacher received their Weber State lanyard. For many, this simple gift represented a powerful milestone—their first tangible connection to their identity as educators.
The Red Apple Opening Ceremony was more than just an event. It was a joyful reminder that teaching is not a solo endeavor, but a shared calling, nurtured in community. Our new teachers are off to a bright start, and we can’t wait to see the impact they will make.
Big thank you to the Red Apple committee for putting this event together!
