A workshop series for current or aspiring backcountry skiers and riders looking to gain fundamental avalanche awareness and applied field skills for wintertime backcountry travel.
Each workshop will focus on a set of skills surrounding a specific topic related to wintertime backcountry travel. This series will cover what to pack for a backcountry tour, partner rescue basics, weather, snowpack, digital mapping tools, backcountry travel technique, and assessing human factors to assemble your tour group. This series will culminate in an optional guided mentorship day tour in the Ogden backcountry to apply these workshop tools to the field.

Jan. 13 | What's in Your Ski Pack?
In this session, we'll take everything out of our pack to show you what we carry during a day of backcountry skiing. The equipment we bring to stay warm, safe, and happy in the mountains. New to backcountry touring or want to see how the equipment you carry differs from ours? This workshop is for you!
Jan. 27 | Backcountry Tour Planning 101
A review on how to use various mapping software and digital products to plan a backcountry tour. This evening session will review how to read and understand topo lines and terrain features on 2D maps, and then overlay specialized functions like slope angle shading and sun exposure to create a robust tour plan structured for the conditions.
