AIARE Avalanche Rescue Skills Course

AIARE Avalanche Rescue is a one-day stand-alone course that is intended to be retaken on a regular basis in order to keep abreast of best practices in rescue techniques and gear. New participants will learn the basics of companion rescue while returning participants will expand their skill set with advanced topics and realistic scenario practice to help improve their skills. Dates:

  • January 12, 2024 || Ogden, UT

Price: $60 for current WSU Students! || $120 for all other participants

Price Includes: AIARE Avalanche Rescue Skills Course Instruction, Course materials, rental of beacon, probe, shovel as needed**.

**If you will require use of our Avy safety packages, you must place a rental order with our shop to secure these items, free of charge, for your course.

Rentals for AT ski/Splitboard setups will be regular pricing but can be made at the same time as securing your free avy safety package rental.


Fitness Level:  Participants will be required to walk, run, and dig in the snow all day, and be comfortable walking in a bent-over position, or crawling.  Participants should be in good physical condition, and be familiar with their ski or splitboard equipment. 

Age:  18

Prerequisite: You must be comfortable , efficient and confident using your uphill travel equipment and riding in deep powder and variable conditions. Please get out into the field prior to the course. If your ability in the field does not meet these standards, you may be excused from the course without a refund.

If your skills are not quite ready to step into this course, please seek out a weekend Backcountry 101 course through Ogden Avalanche or a single day Intro to Backcountry Touring through the WSU Outdoor Program.

Time commitment: 8 hours

Required Equipment: Beacon, Shovel, and Probe.  Preferred mode of travel on snow
