Canvas Course Access FAQs

Four things must be true before a course will show up on your Canvas dashboard:

• You are enrolled in the course.
• The first day of the semester has started.
• Your instructor has published the course.
• You have added the course to your Canvas dashboard.

Either the semester hasn’t started yet or it’s a second block course and the course cannot be viewed before the start date.

Every course in Canvas has a specific start date (typically the start of the semester). If your instructor has published the course, the course will open on the start date.

Face-to-face courses aren’t required to use Canvas, so your instructor may not be using it. Reach out to your instructor or department to determine the course format.

If the semester or second block has started, you should have access to your online course in Canvas.
