Meet the Honors Staff

 

Dr. Eddie Hill

Eddie Hill is an associate professor in the Outdoor & Community Recreation Education program at Weber State University. He earned his Ph.D. from the University of Utah with a focus on youth development and diabetes management. He has written multiple grants, published extensively, and delivered numerous presentations at professional conferences. Eddie has a strong record of scholarship in the area of positive youth development, outdoor recreation, health & wellness. He is the Director of REACH Weber, a year-around recreation program serving youth with type 1 diabetes. Eddie has over 25 years experience as a former challenge course facilitator, Outward Bound field staff, and middle school teacher. He also teaches wilderness medicine and rock climbing to community groups.

Eddie is a Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP). He enjoys being outside with his wife and son.

Abi Monsen

Abi Monsen is the Honors Program Coordinator & Advisor here at WSU. She has been with WSU for a year and loves supporting students, managing program operations, and helping to build a welcoming and engaging Honors community.

Abi earned her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Utah Valley University, where her own positive college experience inspired her to pursue a career in higher education. A native of Ogden, she’s excited to be back in her hometown contributing to student success.

Outside of work, Abi enjoys yoga, rollerblading, karaoke, and spending time with her husband and family. She’s a foodie with a special love for Thai food and pizza, and she enjoys playing guitar and ukulele in her free time. She's also a big fan of Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Parks and Recreation, and New Girl, and is always up for a good conversation about any of them.

Aubrey Altenes

Aubrey Altenes is the Administrative Specialist for the Honors Center here at Weber State. A proud Wildcat with a degree in Anthropology, they are passionate about creating inclusive, student-centered spaces where everyone feels welcome, supported, and inspired to grow!

Before joining the Honors team, Aubrey spent three years as a Violence Prevention Peer Educator with Safe@Weber. There, they facilitated workshops, led outreach efforts, and worked to foster a campus culture rooted in safety, respect and empowerment.

Outside of work, Aubrey enjoys all things imaginative and adventurous. They’re an avid fan of fantasy; whether it’s crafting stories in a Dungeons & Dragons campaign, exploring immersive game worlds like Dragon Age and Red Dead Redemption, or returning to fantasy classics like Lord of the Rings. They are also a passionate rock climber and active member of the Ladies Climbing coalition, always looking to bring a sense of adventure into both their hobbies and community! Aubrey is especially passionate about sharing these interests with students and colleagues, using creativity and curiosity to build connections and inspire engagement.
