“The MBA program taught me that I could do hard things including maintaining almost straight A’s while working and raising a family. It forced me to go above and beyond each day and to know how to properly challenge the status quo to find ways to improve both myself and my product line.

WHY WEBER STATE?

After graduating with my undergraduate degrees in Finance and Economics, I spent 6 years working in various roles in financial planning and analysis for a large corporation.  While I was able to advance within the company, I found it difficult to find new positions in other industries that allowed future growth for my career.  I realized that I needed an MBA, but with a growing family I needed an MBA program that allowed me to continue with my current employment. I also wanted to ensure I received my degree from an accredited institution.  Weber State University Goddard MBA program fulfilled my requirements.

WHY MBA?

I graduated with my MBA from Weber State in the Spring of 2014. I choose an MBA over other masters programs as I wanted a diverse degree that could help me move into new and challenging leadership roles.

INCREDIBLE ACCESS

Within the WSU Goddard School of Business, I found myself surrounded by a diverse set of MBA students with like-minded goals to better themselves through education.  The scheduling and location of the classes were a perfect fit for those like me who worked in or lived within Davis, Weber, and Box Elder counties. Additionally, the program offers elective courses on top of the required courses that let you tailor your education to your personal goals.

FACULTY IMPACT

I had the opportunity to be in several classes taught by Matt Mouritsen.  I remember him taking personal interest in all his students including calling them by name even on the first day in class.  He would often refer to and quote statements students in the class had made in written assignments that week.  These actions showed that he truly cared about each of us.

ADVICE

If you are on the fence about getting your MBA, my advice is to just do it.  There is little downside, but significant upside to having this knowledge and experience.  I don’t believe I could have gotten to where I have gotten today without it.

HOW HAS THE MBA PROGRAM IMPACTED YOU?

Without an MBA I believe it would have remained difficult for me to change industries and ultimately move into the position and responsibilities I have today.  It taught me that I could do hard things including maintaining almost straight A’s while working and raising a family.  It forced me to go above and beyond each day and to know how to properly challenge the status quo to find ways to improve both myself and my product line.

WHERE ARE YOU NOW?

Shortly after graduating with my MBA from Weber State I was offered a position at a company that is outside the industry that I had worked in for almost eight years.  The company had just been purchased by GE Healthcare and I was tasked with building a global pricing strategy and an analytics team for the business.  In the spring, this company was part of a larger acquisition by Danaher and is now called Cytiva.  Cytiva is supplier of products used in biopharma including monoclonal antibodies and vaccines. Six years after joining the company,I am now the Senior Global Product Manager responsible for the main product lines.
