Why We Created the Automotive Service Technology Fast Track Program
As vehicles become increasingly complex, the demand for highly skilled automotive technicians continues to grow. To help meet this need, the Department of Automotive Technology at Weber State University (WSU) is launching the Automotive Service Technology Fast Track program in Fall 2026.
Designed for working professionals, the accelerated program provides an opportunity for individuals to advance their automotive skills while maintaining daytime employment. Courses are offered in the evenings and delivered in-person at the WSU Davis Campus in Layton, Utah.
“We created this program to make education accessible for current technicians,” said Jessica Slater, Department of Automotive Technology Chair and advisor. “The fast-paced design complements a technician's repair experience by filling knowledge gaps in weeks rather than months. A technician can take courses à la carte to focus on specific areas or complete the entire series to earn a credential. It's a way to customize their education and meet them where they are in life.”
Throughout the program, students will develop knowledge and hands-on skills in areas including:
- Shop safety
- Diagnostic Skills
- Engine Repair
- Automatic Transmissions/Transaxles
- Manual Drive Train & Axles
- Suspension & Steering
- Brakes
- Electrical/Electronic Systems
- Heating & Air Conditioning
- Engine Performance
- Hybrid & Electric Vehicle
Upon completion, graduates will earn two Certificates of Proficiency: Automotive Maintenance and Light Repair Certificate of Proficiency and the Hybrid and Electric Vehicle Maintenance Certificate of Proficiency.
Take the next step in advancing your automotive career by joining the inaugural cohort of WSU’s Automotive Service Technology Fast Track program. Contact advisors Jessica Slater at jessicarees@weber.edu or Caid Kroeger at caidkroeger@weber.edu to learn more and schedule an introductory meeting.
