Why WSU Charter Academy?

Where Research-Based Teaching Meets University-Level Opportunity

At Weber State University Charter Academy, young learners thrive in a setting that blends the warmth of a small school with the resources of a major university. Our classrooms are led by highly qualified, mentor teachers who use research-based instructional practices proven to support early literacy, numeracy, and social-emotional growth during the most pivotal years of development.

Our unique partnership with Weber State University means your child benefits from far more than a traditional classroom experience. Daily instruction is enriched by embedded university resources, including practicum students, faculty expertise, and access to the WSU library and campus learning spaces. Students also participate in field experiences throughout Ogden and on the Weber State campus, while embedding real-world practice opportunities through our Kindness in Action service project, helping children learn empathy, responsibility, and community engagement from the very beginning.

With a small 11:1 student-to-teacher ratio, every child is known, supported, and challenged at the level they need. We also provide direct instruction in social skills, giving students meaningful opportunities to practice cooperation, communication, and self-regulation at this pivotal stage of development.

And the results speak for themselves:

  • 72% of our kindergarten students are proficient in reading, compared to 51.6% statewide

  • 82% of kindergarten students demonstrate typical or better growth in reading.

  • 72% of kindergarten students are proficient in math, compared to 60.3% statewide

  • 91% of kindergarten students are demonstrating typical or better growth in math

At WSU Charter Academy, children don’t just learn — they grow as readers, thinkers, and kind, capable people. We invite you to apply and become part of a learning community where university-level excellence meets the heart of early childhood education.
