Department of Child and Family Studies

The mission of the Department of Child and Family Studies is to prepare Early Childhood and Family Life Educators to positively transform our community and society. Our vision is that we aspire to enrich the lives of all children and families in our community and society.

Beginning Summer 2022, our course schedule will look different! Any questions, please contact the Advisor

  • Early Childhood and Early Childhood Education majors should look for ECED prefix.
  • Child Development minors should look for ECED prefix.
  • Family Studies majors and minors should look for FAM prefix.
  • CHF 1500 and CHF 2400 will remain CHF prefix.

Early Childhood Education

Receive early childhood teacher training in a program accredited by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC). We offer on-campus and 100% online A.A.S. degree in Early Childhood, a B.S. degree in Early Childhood, a B.S. degree in Early Childhood Education (Utah Educator License K-3), along with a minor in Child Development.

Family Studies

Our Family Studies program has led the way for developing national standards for family life educators. With a B.S. degree in Family Studies or an MEd degree in Family Life Education, you will be eligible to apply for national certification as a provisional Certified Family Life Educator (CFLE). You may also seek a minor in Family Studies.

Laboratory Early Learning Programs

The Melba S. Lehner Children's School and the WSU Charter Academy provide quality care and education for young children infancy through kindergarten age. These two program serve as an on-campus field experience site and research lab for WSU students and faculty.
