College of Science Dean’s Office

DEAN’S MESSAGE

The College of Science offers programs that invite and challenge you to explore and discover, from the quantum realm of atoms, molecules, and their constituents, to the vast expanse of the universe; from the simplest virus to complex plants and animals; from ancient environments to sustainable practices for today and the future, from number theory to real-world statistics. You can study all of these and much more, right here at Weber State University.

We pride ourselves on engaging teaching and learning strategies that capture students’ imaginations while providing them with the skills and knowledge to succeed in today’s science and mathematics careers. Our distinguished faculty and staff are committed to excellence in teaching, research, and service. We seek to improve scientific and quantitative literacy, train the next generation of scientists and mathematicians, and increase human knowledge through both pure and applied research. Our faculty-supported undergraduate research includes regeneration of the central nervous system in zebrafish with applications to human stem cell therapy, monitoring air quality and atmospheric composition along the Wasatch Front, understanding microbial ecology of aged Cheddar, synthesis and analysis of new anti-cancer compounds, chemical microanalysis of soil materials, and many others.

We have research opportunities for every inquisitive mind!

We are committed to enhancing your success as a student by offering exceptional instruction with personalized attention. We provide associate and baccalaureate degrees that support the community’s need for professionals ready to embark on careers and graduate work in science, technology, engineering, mathematics, and sustainability. We increase awareness of this need with programs and centers devoted to K-12 outreach.

The College of Science is focused on experiential learning. Students get hands-on experience with modern laboratory facilities and instrumentation housed in the state-of-the-art Tracy Hall Science Center. Field work is a central part of many of our programs of study, where students gain real-world training using modern field equipment and methods.

We invite you to take a moment to explore our website. Then stop by, visit with us, and embark on your exploration of discovery.
