
ADN Prospective Students
4-SEMESTER RN PROGRAM & 2-SEMESTER PN TO RN PROGRAM
The Department of Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) offers two ACEN-accredited programs: a 4-semester RN program and a 2-semester PN to RN program.
The 4-semester RN program prepares students to take the National Council of State Boards of Nursing exam (NCLEX-PN) after two semesters and the NCLEX-RN exam upon graduation.
The 2-semester PN to RN program is intended for students who have successfully graduated from an accredited practical nursing program and are eligible for licensure, and licensed practical nurses who wish to become registered nurses.

Program Length
- Full-Time (9-11 credits per semester)
- 4-semester RN program: 16 months
- 2-semester PN to RN program: 8 months (prospective students must complete practical nursing education before application)

Course Offerings
Didactic courses are offered face-to-face or online, depending on the selected campus. All students are required to attend lab and simulation on campus.
- For the cohorts at WSU Ogden, WSU Davis, Bridgerland Technical College (Btech), and Davis Technical College (Dtech) campuses, students are expected to attend class and lab, sim, or clinical 2 to 3 days per week.
- This does not include exams that are done outside of class time. All exams for the ADN Department must be taken in person at an approved testing location.
- The Hybrid cohort completes didactic courses online and attends campus 1-2 days per week for lab, simulation, or clinical.

- The ADN Department places group clinical rotations in clinical facilities from Logan to Salt Lake City (Utah). Capstone rotations can be completed across the state of Utah. Students are responsible for transportation to all classes, simulations, labs, exams, and clinical activities.
- For the cohorts at WSU Ogden, WSU Davis, Bridgerland Technical College (Btech), and Davis Technical College (Dtech) campuses, students are expected to attend class and lab, sim, or clinical 2 to 3 days per week.

Program Residence
All students admitted to the 4-Semester RN Program or 2-Semester PN to RN Program must complete didactic and clinical hours in the state of Utah.

International Student Admission Requirements
International Students are allowed to enter the program, as long as the prospective student meets the established application requirements.
- The ADN Department requires one of the following English proficiency scores for International students to be submitted with their application. Your test date must be within 2 years of the semester start date for which you are applying.
- TOEFL iBT: 4.5 or higher (taken after 1/21/2026); 86 or higher (taken before 1/21/2026)
- IELTS academic: 7 or higher
- Duolingo English Test: 120 or higher
- Additionally, all international students should check with the International Student Admissions Office for any additional requirements.
- International students will be required to attend the WSU Ogden or WSU Davis cohorts.
- The ADN Department requires one of the following English proficiency scores for International students to be submitted with their application. Your test date must be within 2 years of the semester start date for which you are applying.

Cohort Sizes
- The 4-semester RN program admits 32 students in each of the WSU Ogden, WSU Davis, and Hybrid cohorts (96 students total). Students are admitted three times per year (288 students per year). Campus choice is given on a first-come, first-served basis in response to acceptance email. Admission numbers are subject to change due to clinical site and faculty availability.
- The 2-semester PN to RN program does not have a set number of available positions each application cycle. This program accepts students to fill open positions on five campuses. The cohorts are WSU Ogden, WSU Davis, Hybrid, DTech (Kaysville), and B Tech (Logan). Applicants can rank preferred campuses. Campus placement will be awarded based on applicant points.
- The ADN Department partners with the Bridgerland Technical College (Btech) and Davis Technical College (Dtech) PN programs, offering graduating students a direct pathway for students to earn an Associate of Science (AS) or an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in the 2-semester PN to RN program.
- This option is only open to current BTech and DTech students. If admitted, students will be enrolled at WSU, but will take nursing courses at the BTech or DTech campuses.
- The ADN Department partners with the Ogden-Weber Technical College (OTech) PN program, offering a direct pathway for students to earn an Associate of Science (AS) or an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in the 2-semester PN to RN program.
- This is only open to current OTech students. If admitted, students will be enrolled in the WSU Hybrid cohort at the WSU Ogden campus.
- The ADN Department partners with the Bridgerland Technical College (Btech) and Davis Technical College (Dtech) PN programs, offering graduating students a direct pathway for students to earn an Associate of Science (AS) or an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in the 2-semester PN to RN program.

Licensure & Certification Requirements
In order to be licensed as a licensed practical nurse or RN in Utah, applicants need to conform to the Utah Nurse Practice Act. Interested applicants should visit the Division of Professional Licensing website for information regarding licensing, laws, and rules, as well as criminal history, to determine their eligibility for licensure. The Utah State Board of Nursing makes final decisions on licensure.

GPA
Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) for all college-level work.
- 2- Semester PN to RN program: Applicants may have a 2.5 to 3.0 cumulative GPA if they have 2 or more years of full-time work experience as an LPN (or 3 years part-time) and the applicant’s nursing GPA (nursing only courses) is at or above a 3.0 GPA.
- 2-semester PN to RN program applicants must be a licensed practical nurse or have successfully graduated from an accredited practical nursing program and be eligible for licensure.
- 2- Semester PN to RN program: Applicants may have a 2.5 to 3.0 cumulative GPA if they have 2 or more years of full-time work experience as an LPN (or 3 years part-time) and the applicant’s nursing GPA (nursing only courses) is at or above a 3.0 GPA.

CNA or EMT Certification (4-Semester RN Program)
Current proof of certification as a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) or a current Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is required of all accepted 4-semester RN program applicants.
- A copy of the certification is required and must be provided prior to the start of the 4-semester RN program. Must be active on day one of the program and cannot be expired.
- Contact the Utah CNA Registry for questions concerning CNA certification.
- For questions concerning the EMT certificate, contact the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services.
- Course completion without certification is not accepted.
- Military personnel with a medical background (documentation on a DD-214 and within the last 2 years), please contact an advisor.
- A copy of the certification is required and must be provided prior to the start of the 4-semester RN program. Must be active on day one of the program and cannot be expired.

Prerequisite Courses
Prospective students to the ADN department do not need to have all courses completed to apply. However, applicants must be enrolled in (or have completed) all prerequisite courses at the time of application. Only completed courses will count toward application points; courses that are still in progress will not be considered for points.
Prerequisites (A minimum of a "C" grade is required):
- CHEM 1130 (PS)/1135 - Intro. to General, Organic & Biochemistry (5 credits)
- Chemistry 1110 and 1115 OR Chemistry 1210 and 1215 may be substituted. The lab is required to be completed along with the course.
- ZOOL 2320 - Human Anatomy (4 credits) OR HTHS 2110 (LS) - Integrated Human Anatomy and Physiology I (4 credits)
- ZOOL 2420 (LS) - Human Physiology (4 credits) OR HTHS 2111 - Integrated Human Anatomy and Physiology II (4 credits)
- MATH (QL) [Quantitative Literacy Requirement] (3 credits)

- The ADN Department recommends one of the following courses:
- MATH 1030 (QL): Contemporary Mathematics (3 credits)

- MATH 1080 (QL): Pre-calculus (5 credits)
2-semester PN to RN Program Additional Prerequisites:
These prerequisites are required for 2-semester PN to RN Program students, along with the prerequisites listed above.

Bonus Courses (Count for additional application points in both programs, but are not required):
These courses are not required for admission; however, students may complete these courses for additional application points. Points are awarded per course completed based on grades received. Courses must have a grade of “C” or higher to receive application points.

We recommend prospective students have some general education courses completed prior to starting the 4-semester RN program. This will help lighten course load during your time in the program.
2-Semester PN to RN Program:
Additional Support Courses/General Education for AAS Degree
These courses are not required for admission; however, students may complete these courses for additional application points. Points are awarded if all courses are completed with grades posted at the time of application. Students will not receive additional application points for a completed degree or certificate. If not completed, students will be required to complete the courses during the program to be eligible for graduation with an Associate of Applied Science Degree.- ENGL 2010 (EN2) (3 credits)

Additional Support Courses/General Education for AS Degree
These are additional courses required to graduate with the Associate of Science Degree. Students graduating with an AAS degree progressing to the RN-BSN program will be required to complete these courses during the RN-BSN program.- ENGL 2010 (EN2) (3 credits)

Prospective students who want to transfer course credits from other institutions will need to visit the Course Transfer Guide. It is recommended that students submit all transcripts from prior institutions to determine the transferability of courses.

2-Semester PN to RN Program Applicants
2-semester PN to RN program applicants must be a licensed practical nurse or have successfully graduated from an accredited practical nursing program and be eligible for licensure. program. Students must pass the PN-NCLEX and obtain licensure by the end of the first semester if admitted. Failure to pass PN-NCLEX by the end of the first semester will require a pause in the program.

Failure to Meet Application Requirements
Applicants who do not meet the minimum application requirements will not have their applications reviewed by the Admissions and Advancement Committee. Unqualified students will not receive re-applicant credit for the following application cycle.

After Acceptance to the Program
- All admitted applicants will be required to complete a mandatory background check, drug screening, and physical exam. Students are also required to have personal health insurance. Admission to the program is contingent upon submission of a satisfactory background check, a negative drug screening, a physical exam, and documentation of personal health insurance.
- If a background check reveals a history of criminal actions, or the drug screen reveals the presence of controlled substances (prescription or non-prescription), the applicant understands that they may not be allowed to begin or remain in the ADN Program and will not be entitled to any refunds of tuition dollars or other fees.
- Currently, medical marijuana cards are not accepted by all of our clinical partners and, therefore, will not be accepted by the Annie Taylor Dee School of Nursing. Any applicant testing positive for marijuana, even with a medical marijuana card, will not be cleared to start the program.
- Complete student documentation requirements can be found in the Annie Taylor Dee School of Nursing Student Handbook. These requirements are mandatory. Costs associated with requirements are the students' responsibility. Some costs may be covered by WSU student health services.

Only materials uploaded to the application by the deadline will be considered for review. It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure all courses (completed and in progress) are reflected in the transcripts uploaded to the application. 3 - Notification
Acceptance and declination notifications will be sent to the provided email address approximately 4 to 6 weeks after the application deadline.
4-Semester RN Program campus placements are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis in response to the acceptance email. A Weber email address and W# are required to submit your response and request a specific campus. To help speed up the process, it’s recommended that applicants apply to Weber State University before receiving an acceptance or declination notice.
