Post-Bachelor’s Certificate in Occupational Health Nursing (OHN)

PROGRAM INFORMATION

• About OHN Program

  • 5-course online certificate.
  • Students can complete the certificate in as few as two semesters, but may extend it by an additional year as needed.
  • Prospective students can apply anytime. The OHN certificate program accepts students for the fall and spring semesters up until 2 weeks before the semester begins. Curriculum prepares nurses for board certification in occupational health nursing.
  • The American Board for Occupational Health Nurses, Inc. has approved this program to satisfy 2,000 of the 3,000 work-related hours required to apply for the certification exam.
  • Students will learn nursing basics within the workplace, health promotion, health and safety assessments and management, case management, counseling and crisis management, and legal and regulatory compliance.

• Required Courses

  • NRSG 6010: Fundamentals of Occupational Nursing (3 credits; spring, summer and fall semesters)
  • NRSG 6020: Occupational Health Nursing Role Development (3 credits; spring, summer and fall semesters) (requires NRSG 6010 as a prerequisite)
  • OEHS 6370: Occupational Epidemiology (3 credits; fall semester with possible additional offerings)
  • OEHS 6750: Fundamentals of Industrial Hygiene (3 credit; fall semester with possible additional offerings)
  • OEHS 6760: Management and Administration of Occupational Environmental and Safety Programs (3 credits; spring semester with possible additional offerings)

  • OEHS 6703: Clinical and Behavioral Aspects of Occupational Injuries and Diseases (3 credits)
  • OEHS 6752: Introduction to Industrial and Environmental Toxicology and Physiology (3 credits)

  • 15 Credit Hours of Graduate Level Tuition
  • Out-of-state graduate tuition waivers are available to students accepted into the program. Tuition waivers provide in-state tuition costs for out-of-state students.
