ELIZABETH
business administration '22

The Goddard School has been incredible for me. I've learned that it's easy to find people who want to help me. I have had hands-on experience implementing my ideas and trying new approaches to sell art. I'm happy to say I've received a first-class education at the Goddard School.

WHY WEBER STATE?

I chose WSU because it is a great school for a great price! I had no idea how many opportunities I would find while attending WSU/Goddard.

WHY BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION?

I'm an artist. I never intended to go to college because I didn't think investing in an art degree would be very valuable to me. After some time exploring the fine arts world, I realized that there is almost zero correlation between how much art is sold for and it's overall quality. I decided to get a business degree because I drew the conclusion that most artists are poor because they don't understand how to do business.

FACULTY IMPACT

Alan Hall: Alan has been the most impactful person in my education while I have attended WSU. He became my honored mentor after I placed as a finalist in an entrepreneurship competition. He was generous in sharing his business connections with me and would accompany me as I would present my business to them. He showed me incredible kindness and taught me how to be a better person. Because of his generosity, my understanding of business has improved dramatically. I am forever grateful to have met him.

Derek Dawes: Derek is the first person I presented a business idea to and became my first customer. I have presented several business ideas to Derek since then and he has always been very receptive and encouraging. I am honored that my business provided value to WSU Athletics.

Brett Merrell: Brett is full of incredible wisdom and experience. He has been encouraging of me and my business endeavors, whole-heartedly, since we first met. Brett has an eye for opportunity and is always encouraging me to get involved in new projects. I am always thrilled to see and interact with Brett.

Betsy Mennell: Betsy is a busy woman and I was so honored that she took the time to listen to my business idea. She was very kind and receptive to everything I had to say. WSU is lucky to have her!

Brandon Stoddard: While I was preparing for a business competition, Brandon spent a lot of time helping me improve my message. He provided great insight that helped elevate my confidence and performance.

Braden Miles: I have to put in a shout-out for my husband! We met while attending the Goddard School and it's history! I'm forever thankful that I was able to marry someone has supportive and kind as him. He truly understands the motto "happy wife, happy life".

ADVICE

My advice to a new student is to take advantage of every opportunity. I decided to pursue extracurricular opportunities at WSU, fully confident that I would fail, and I learned that the act of simply trying is what helped me succeed

WHAT ARE YOUR CAREER ASPIRATIONS?

I started my education at WSU wanting to become better at selling my art. Since then, I have developed skills that I can apply anywhere. I have a half-dozen business ideas that I'm testing out while I work towards finishing my degree.
