Civic Advocacy

India Nielsen

Class of 2014

“The civic advocacy emphasis allowed me to tailor my education to my career goals. I was able to take political science classes that were extremely useful during my five internships, and now in my career and volunteer work.”

What You Will Learn

The Civic Advocacy emphasis, including tracks in environmental advocacy, ethnic studies/ethnic advocacy, legal advocacy, public policy advocacy, religious advocacy, and women's advocacy, is designed to teach you how to serve as an advocate in the interest of the public good. You will benefit from this emphasis if you want to become an attorney, legislator, environmental advocate, animal rights advocate, religious leader, homeless advocate, politician, children's advocate, minority and marginalized populations representative, lobbyist, etc. Instead of a track, you may also complete a minor approved by your advisor.
