Student short produced through Weber State’s Studio 76 to screen at international film festival: A short film produced through Weber State University’s Studio 76 collective will screen at the Zepstone International Film & Music Festival, or ZepFest 2025, an annual event hosted in Salt Lake City by the nonprofit Zepstone Arts Foundation. Accelerated bachelor’s degrees coming to Weber State, saving time and costs: Pending accreditor approval, WSU plans to offer an accelerated bachelor’s degree in sound production and recording that requires 93–94 credits. The hands-on degree builds on the existing associate’s program in sound production, meant for students looking to launch careers in audio engineering, live sound, or media production. As the Great Salt Lake dries up, clouds of dangerous dust blow into boomtowns: Bornhoft, an artist in residence at the Utah Museum of Contemporary Art, creates works that examine people’s relationship with climate change. She immediately became fascinated with the lake. Her latest installation looks at what she calls “dirty diamonds”: cloudy crystals that emerge from places on the lakebed where water used to be. CRIMMEL: Remnants of the past can help us ponder future of the West: Written by Dr. Hal Crimmel: Earlier this summer, my mother pulled out a wicker basket of old family photos, dating back to her childhood in Albuquerque, New Mexico, in the 1930s and 1940s. Albuquerque was a hot, dry place then, and climate change means it’s hotter and drier every year. Here in Utah it’s been ferociously dry, too, and 100% of the state is officially in drought.
