Lindquist College Arts and Humanities Academy

The Lindquist College Arts & Humanities Academy (LCAHA) at Weber State University is a three-week summer program designed for motivated high school students who want to grow as thinkers, creators, and communicators.

Open to students entering 9th–12th grade in the fall, LCAHA provides a supportive introduction to university-level learning in the arts and humanities. Through small, engaging workshops led by Weber State faculty, students build skills in public speaking, debate, literature, visual arts, and performance while strengthening their confidence and voice.

At LCAHA, students will:

  • Develop critical thinking and communication skills
  • Explore big questions about meaning, ethics, and community
  • Participate in creative projects
  • Engage in community-centered field trips
  • Experience interdisciplinary learning in a welcoming, academically challenging environment

Our interdisciplinary approach helps students connect ideas across subjects while cultivating creativity, self-reflection, and leadership skills that will benefit them in high school, college, and beyond.

Application review begins April 1.

2026 Workshops Offered

Public Speaking and Debate

How can students build confidence and develop effective public speaking skills that make a meaningful impact? In this workshop, students learn the fundamentals of strong speaking, including delivery, organization, and clarity. They practice constructing logical, evidence-based arguments while learning how to anticipate and respond to counterarguments.

Students also gain practical tools to manage speaking anxiety, build confidence, and engage in thoughtful, respectful debate. The focus is on collaboration and constructive dialogue, helping students see public speaking not as something to fear, but as a powerful way to connect with others.

The Art of Short Fiction

The short story is one of the most influential literary forms of the twentieth century, especially in Latin America, where writers reshaped how literature is imagined and understood. In this workshop, students explore how short fiction challenges readers to question their assumptions and expectations.

Rather than simply reading a story, students learn how to analyze and interpret it more deeply. Through guided discussion and close reading, they examine how literature helps us better understand the world around us and our place within it. This workshop strengthens analytical thinking while nurturing curiosity and imagination.

Communication and Collage

This workshop combines visual art and communication to help students explore how meaning is created and understood. They’ll look closely at how images shape the messages we see every day and how artists intentionally transform those images to make thoughtful, powerful statements.

As students learn about visual storytelling and persuasive design, they’ll discover how images can influence the way we think and feel. They’ll then put those ideas into practice by creating their own collage projects, expressing their perspectives both visually and in writing. Along the way, students build creativity, confidence, and strong critical thinking skills in a supportive, engaging environment.
