WSU brings free children’s activities to Ogden parks with focus on arts, science
OGDEN, Utah — Weber State University’s free summer outreach programs, Arts in the Parks and Science in the Parks, return this summer in Ogden.
These programs offer children of all ages the opportunity to explore art and science educational activities through visual and hands-on activities.
Arts in the Parks begins June 2 and Science in the Parks begins June 9 from noon to 1 p.m. These activities coincide with Ogden School District’s free summer lunch program.
“These programs are impactful on children. It’s special for them to express themselves in creative ways,” said Alexis Kiedaisch, marketing and outreach manager for WSU’s Department of Visual Art & Design.
Daily activities for Arts in the Parks include:

Mondays: visual arts with collages and sculptures

Tuesdays: literary arts with storytelling, treasure maps, and book-making

Wednesdays: dance with tambourines and dance streamers

Thursdays: theater with masks, hats, and puppets

Fridays: music with banjos, rainsticks, and maracas
Daily themes for Science in the Parks include:

“Science in the Parks is a unique and fun experience, and easy to engage in,” said Amanda Gentry, director of Science in the Parks. “I have seen hundreds of kids running around towards our tents with nothing but smiles on their faces.”

“Weber State Outreach programs are so fun because we get to build relationships with the communities around us,” Kiedaisch said. “We want to be a part of people’s lives and their core experiences.”
Activities will not be held on June 19 in observance of the Juneteenth holiday.
