Secure Testing and Proctoring in Canvas

Overview

There are two parts to putting your Canvas Quiz in the Testing Center, one in Canvas and the other in the Testing Center's Check-In/Registration App. This guide will walk you through the Canvas part which must be done first.

Steps & Requirements

Be familiar with how to create a Canvas Classic Quiz. Only Canvas Classic Quizzes, NOT New Quizzes, are supported at the Testing Center at this time. This Canvas guide will help you understand the various kinds of Quizzes available in Classic Quizzes.

Make your quiz however you'd like, but these requirements must be met:

1. Set "Available from" and "Until" dates.
   
2. Click "Require an access code" and enter a password.
   Choose a secure password and contains a combination of at least two letters, numbers, or special characters (no spaces). Avoid using common passwords and phrases that your students can guess, this password can be used to take the quiz outside of the testing centers.
   
   
3. Publish the quiz and make sure students can see it in Canvas. What this means is that they must be able to log into Canvas to find their quiz, and the Testing Center Proctor will then enter the password to begin the exam.
4. Next Step: Now your Canvas Quiz is ready to be set up in the Testing Center using the Testing Center’s Check-In/ Registration App.

Use “Flex Mode” in Proctorio to allow your Canvas Tests to be taken remotely via Proctorio or in a campus Testing Center.

Once your test is created with Canvas Quizzes, ensure Proctorio is enabled and the quiz is Published. Then, navigate to your quiz and click “Moderate this Quiz” (do NOT click “Edit”).

Click “Make Exam Flexible.”

Once you've selected “Make Exam Flexible,” you'll have the ability to select which students should have flexible testing options. Note that you must also complete the Testing Center's Canvas Check-in App to host your test in a Testing Center.

1. If the checkbox under the webcam (Proctorio) icon is checked, this means students have the option to use either the Testing Center or Proctorio.
2. If the checkbox is unchecked for any student, Proctorio will be disabled and they MUST use a campus Testing Center.
3. Make your test available in a campus Testing Center using their Canvas Check-in App. You do NOT need to share the password on this page with the Testing Center - they will have it in their software already.
