Science Degree Paths

Popular "hard science" degree paths at Weber State University are categorized into four areas:

  • life sciences (Departments of Botany & Plant Ecology, Microbiology, and Zoology),
  • physical sciences (Departments of Chemistry & Biochemistry, Earth & Environmental Sciences, and Physics & Astronomy), and
  • mathematics (Department of Mathematics),
  • interdisciplinary (Dumke Pre-Medical Professional Programs, Center for Science and Mathematics Education, & Environmental Sciences).

Each path identifies degree "program of study" (aka majors, minors, and certificates) opportunities in which students can explore their options and not waste their time. Completing certificates and associate degrees before or concurrently with their definitive bachelor's degree program of study gives students science credentials that can improve their hireability in the science field.

Students are encouraged to explore multiple paths as initial course requirements can complete multiple program of study options. Advisors will guide you through the options, help you understand what paths best meet your goals, and teach you how to register accordingly.

Dumke Family Pre-medical professional path

Please attend the required information session

This path starts by understanding that there is no “pre-medical major.” Rather, you select a major in any discipline and include the courses that schools provide professional training in your area of interest. After attending the required information session, regular communication with our pre-medical advisor is encouraged. Your advisor will help you plan and carry out your pre-medical preparation. Learn more today.

Secondary Science Education (BS)

*All life and physical science teaching majors are being consolidated into the Secondary Science Education Major. For more assistance as teaching majors work through the changes, please reach out to your advisor.

Environmental Science (BS)

Weber State’s environmental science program prepares students to meld the life and physical sciences to assess and protect environmental quality, ecosystem functioning, and human health. If you have a passion for the environment and want to make a difference for the long-term viability of ecosystems and human communities, consider this degree. Learn more about our program.
