Students Explore Mozambican Culture, Engage in Humanitarian Efforts

Professors from the geography, women and gender studies, and dance programs are team-teaching the class “Mozambique: Place, Gender and Dance.” The class is exploring the culture of Mozambique and raising funds in preparation for a study abroad trip in May to help build a women’s center and teach the women of Mozambique basic finance management. Students will also help with medical and educational needs.

MOZWOC will hold a fundraiser March 15 at 6 p.m. in Shepherd Union Ballroom B. “Unity: An Evening of Culture and Art to Benefit the Women of Mozambique” will feature live music, African dance, a silent auction of African art and a raffle. Tickets are $15 general admission, $8 with student ID or $32 for a group of four. Each admission comes with a free raffle ticket. Tickets can be purchased at the door or online with a small fee. All proceeds will help MOZWOC reach its goal of $50,000 for the women’s center.
           
The study abroad program will be held from May 5-30. Students will spend 17 of the 25 days building the women’s center.
