Course Reductions and Course Additions | |||||||||
|
The A&H Dean’s office encourages departments to make use of PPM 3.25 VI, which allows for a one-course reduction for tenure-track faculty. Please see the PPM for specific procedures. Current policy on overload is that faculty may teach a maximum of 12 sch’s overload per year (with 7 hours maximum per semester)—although I want to discourage faculty in the college from taking on large overload obligations. Doing so sends the wrong message to the public and to upper administration. On-line overload courses are no different (and should not be counted differently) than f2f classes.[1] If an untenured faculty member has a reduced course load as a result of PPM 3.25 or as a result of chair/dean agreement that such a reduction is warranted to help the candidate toward tenure, s/he may not be granted overload. Effective 7/25/08; discussed at A&H Chairs’ meeting on 9/16/07 [1] Continuing Education advises that the first time an instructor teaches an on-line class, enrollment in that class will be limited. The second and subsequent times the instructor teaches this class, enrollment caps should be the same as those for f2f versions of the class. |
