What We Do
The AI Committee at Weber State University is dedicated to fostering awareness, education, and the responsible use of Generative AI (GenAI) within our academic and operational environments. We curate and disseminate educational content, provide guidance on ethical AI implementation, and help faculty, students, and staff understand how to use AI effectively and safely.
Our work spans:
- Creating shared resources and training
- Evaluating and recommending AI tools for campus use
- Contributing to university policies and governance structures
- Promoting ethical AI literacy across the institution
- Supporting AI-related research, innovation, and communication
Our Strategic Goals
Adapted from our AI Strategy Charter, the committee’s strategic priorities are:
1. AI Governance and Policy Framework
Establish a transparent governance structure that ensures AI efforts across campus meet legal, ethical, and security standards. Regular reviews will help ensure ongoing alignment with university policies and values.
2. Operational Excellence and AI Integration
Use AI to improve administrative processes, resource management, and services—ensuring access and efficiency while upholding equity and inclusion.
3. AI Literacy and Faculty/Staff Training
Develop training programs that help the campus community build AI skills, consider ethical implications, and understand real-world use cases across roles.
4. Student-Centered AI Integration
Support personalized learning, advising, and career development through safe and ethical AI tools that prepare students for an AI-enabled future.
5. Ethics, Compliance, and AI Use
Build and maintain institutional policies that promote privacy, fairness, and legal compliance. Continually assess the risks of AI tools to ensure they meet ethical standards.
6. Community Engagement and Transparency
Ensure all members of the WSU community have opportunities to engage in conversations about AI, raise concerns, and provide feedback through events, open forums, and collaborative initiatives.
7. AI Research and Interdisciplinary Collaboration
Foster interdisciplinary partnerships across colleges, departments, and external organizations to support AI-driven research and knowledge sharing.
Why It Matters
AI presents transformative opportunities—but it also raises serious questions around privacy, equity, and the integrity of teaching and learning. The AI Committee exists to ensure Weber State is not only prepared for these challenges but positioned to lead in responsible AI integration.
Through transparent leadership, collaboration, and education, we aim to make AI a force for good on campus—empowering our students, enhancing our operations, and inspiring our faculty and staff.
