Student Appointment Attendance Policy
Two no-shows, three cancellations, and/or a combination of no-shows and cancellations may result in your tutoring privileges being discontinued for the remainder of the semester.
We may not be able to accommodate last-minute changes to your appointment, such as the location or the time of the appointment.
What counts as a no-show?
Failing to attend your scheduled appointment, or showing up more than 15 minutes late to your appointment, unless otherwise discussed with your tutor prior to the appointment. Extenuating circumstances may result in the absence being excused.
If you no longer need the appointment or you know you will not be able to attend, please cancel your appointment.
What counts as a cancellation?
Cancelling your scheduled appointment within 24 hours of the appointment start time, using the Starfish application, by contacting your tutor directly, OR by contacting the appropriate tutoring center via phone or email. Cancelling outside the 24 hour window before your scheduled appointment start time will not affect your tutoring eligibility.
Will I be notified of changes to my tutoring eligibility?
Yes. You will receive communication to your student email for each violation and a reminder of how each violation affects your tutoring eligibility.
Can I be reinstated for tutoring after being dropped?
If you are interested in being reinstated for tutoring during the current semester, you must meet with the tutoring coordinator. Please contact the appropriate tutoring center to set up a meeting.
Student Tutoring Agreement
The Tutor's Role
A tutor is NOT a professor. It is NOT the tutor's job to re-lecture, summarize the textbook, give the answers, or do the homework. Tutors will not work on your quizzes or tests. Tutors will not significantly contribute to the completion of assignments. Tutors can help review concepts and work with you on similar problems to your assignment.
Note: Tutors may have taken your same course from a different instructor. If a tutor does not know how to best support you, please reach out to your instructor during their office hours.
Plan Ahead
Avoid waiting until the day your assignment is due to meet with a tutor. It is better to plan ahead so you can get the support you need in time.
Be Prepared
For each session, please bring all necessary books, assignments, handouts, notes, calculators, etc. Please attend your class regularly and have questions ready. Please attempt to complete your homework assignments to the best of your ability.
Participate and Communicate
Participate in the tutoring session by attempting problems, taking notes, asking questions, and making thoughtful comments. Review material on your own time and bring in problems or questions to use your tutoring time efficiently.
Be Respectful
Be respectful during your tutoring sessions; including silencing all electronic devices such as cell phones and other distracting devices.
Be on Time to Scheduled Appointments
If you cannot make it or are running late for your appointments, please call the appropriate tutoring center as soon as possible. Please be reliable and punctual to your tutoring appointment.
Attend Scheduled Appointments
Two no-shows or three cancellations may result in being dropped from future tutoring sessions. Notify the tutoring center if you withdraw from your course or if you no longer want to attend your tutoring appointments.
