Post-Bachelor’s Certificate in Occupational Health Nursing (OHN)

Prospective Students

Be Brilliant in Nursing by taking on crucial roles in developing and leading programs that advocate for employee health, manage employee cases, educate staff, promote healthy behaviors, and assist leadership in overall workplace health and safety with the Occupational Health Nursing Certificate Program. This program satisfies 2,000 of the 3,000 work-related hours required to apply for the American Board for Occupational Health Nurses, Inc. (ABOHN) certification exam.

Weber State University, the University of Utah, and the Rocky Mountain Center for Occupational and Environmental Health jointly offer this 100% online program. Enrollment is exclusively through Weber State University.

OHN Program Information

  • 5-course online certificate.
  • Students can complete the certificate in as few as two semesters, but may extend it by an additional year as needed.
  • Prospective students can apply anytime. The OHN certificate program accepts students for the fall and spring semesters up until 2 weeks before the semester begins. Curriculum prepares nurses for board certification in occupational health nursing.
  • The American Board for Occupational Health Nurses, Inc. has approved this program to satisfy 2,000 of the 3,000 work-related hours required to apply for the certification exam.
  • Students will learn nursing basics within the workplace, health promotion, health and safety assessments and management, case management, counseling and crisis management, and legal and regulatory compliance.

Costs

  • 15 Credit Hours of Graduate Level Tuition
  • Out-of-state graduate tuition waivers are available to students accepted into the program. Tuition waivers provide in-state tuition costs for out-of-state students.

Eligibility and Prerequisites

  • Applicants must hold a minimum of a 3.0 GPA
  • Prospective students need a current and active RN license and a bachelor’s degree in nursing. It is recommended that students have some experience working as an RN.

How to Apply

1. Apply to WSU

WSU is an open-enrollment university, so you can apply to Weber State anytime. And don't forget, once a Wildcat, always a Wildcat. If you've previously taken a WSU course (including high school concurrent enrollment), visit Return to Weber for more information.

2. Advisement

Once you have a W# (or if you already have one), schedule an appointment with Academic Advisor Jodi Waddoups (jodiwaddoups2@weber.edu).

3. Registration

Visit the WSU registration website to see when you can register for classes, then find the next semester to register for and do so. The OHN Certificate Program accepts students up to 2 weeks before the semester begins.
