Post-BSN to Doctor of Nursing Practice: Family Nurse Practitioner Emphasis

Prospective Students

The full-time, post-bachelor’s Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP), Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) program emphasis prepares nurses to provide comprehensive, evidence-based care for patients across the lifespan. This program integrates advanced clinical skills, health promotion, and disease prevention, focusing on improving patient outcomes in primary care settings. FNP graduates are ready to lead in diverse healthcare environments, addressing complex health needs and enhancing access to quality care for individuals and families. FNP students will complete four semesters of clinical experiences in and around their communities, which are arranged with the help of a clinical coordinator.

The DNP is a practice doctorate focusing on nursing competencies and improving health outcomes through advocacy, management, and applying research-based evidence into practice. The DNP degree differs from a Ph.D., a research-focused degree that generates new science/knowledge and focuses heavily on scientific content and research methodology.
