Richard Turley
Richard E. Turley Jr. is the former managing director of the Church History and Family History Departments of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, where he helped envision, launch, and lead many of the church’s most important historical projects of the last four decades. He has also authored or edited more than twenty books on Latter-day Saint and Western United States history. He has received numerous awards for his work, including the Herbert Feis Award for distinguished contributions to public history from the American Historical Association, the Historic Preservation Medal from the Daughters of the American Revolution, and the Leonard J. Arrington Award from the Mormon History Association. His most recent book, Vengeance Is Mine, coauthored with Barbara Jones Brown, received multiple honors, including the 2025 Juanita Brooks Best Book in Utah History Award from the Utah Historical Society and the 2025 Utah Book Award in General Nonfiction from Utah Humanities.
