RHS and MSAT (3+2 Program) in 5 Years
Earn both your Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Sciences (RHS) and your Master of Science in Athletic Training (MSAT) degrees in just 5 years in this unique program, which consists of three years of undergraduate coursework and two years of graduate coursework.
Students can reduce their tuition by a full year and start a career as an athletic trainer a year sooner.
Rehabilitation sciences upperclassmen who wish to bypass their final year of undergraduate coursework and start the MSAT program a year early should apply by the priority deadline of Dec. 1 in the current academic year to be eligible for graduate scholarships.
Applications received after the deadline will be considered on a rolling admissions basis if available slots still exist. Students are encouraged to apply by the priority deadline to ensure they receive full consideration for all scholarships.
ADMISSIONS and APPLICATION
Rehabilitation sciences underclassmen who wish to start the MSAT program in a future year can apply anytime between July 1-May 1.
To be eligible to apply to the RHS and MSAT program, you must:
- Be a WSU student majoring in Rehabilitation Sciences.
- Have a minimum overall grade point average (GPA) of 3.2.
- Observe/shadow an athletic trainer for at least 50 hours.
- Complete the first-year RHS coursework.
If you meet these requirements, you can submit your application through ATCAS at a discounted rate.
Before submitting your application, please send an email to conradgabler@weber.edu to receive a coupon code.
PROGRAM TIMELINE
The following is a possible timeline outlining the 5-year RHS and MSAT program for students. The MSAT website has more details about the MSAT program.
FIRST YEAR
Work on RHS coursework and complete general education requirements. Students must have a minimum 3.2 overall GPA, observe or shadow an athletic trainer for at least 50 hours, and complete the following courses during the first year:
All of the following courses:
- HTHS 1101: Medical Terminology (2 credits)
- HTHS 2110: Integrated Human Anatomy and Physiology I (4)
- HTHS 2111: Integrated Human Anatomy and Physiology II (4)
- RHS 1550: Introduction to Rehabilitation Sciences (2)
- RHS 2175: Introduction to Sports Medicine (3)
One of the following chemistry courses:
- CHEM 1010 PS: Introductory Chemistry (3)
- CHEM 1110 PS: Elementary Chemistry (4)
- CHEM 1200: Preparation for College Chemistry (3)
One of the following courses:
- RHS 1300: First Aid: Responding to Emergencies (2)
- RHS 2300: Emergency Response (3)
- PAR 1000 INT: Emergency Medical Technician (4) and PAR 1001: Emergency Medical Technician Lab (2)
At the end of their first year, students should apply to the RHS and MSAT program through ATCAS. Students can apply during their second and third years as well, but we recommend applying as early as possible.
SECOND and THIRD YEARS
Students should work on their remaining RHS coursework. Students should also complete all of their general education requirements and MSAT prerequisites by the end of their third year, prior to beginning the MSAT program.
Students must maintain an overall 3.2 GPA to begin the MSAT program in their fourth year.
Students can receive up to 25 experiential credits for RHS major courses through the completion of the first year of MSAT coursework. Be sure to know which courses you'll receive credit for so that you don't take these RHS courses.
The following courses may be awarded as experiential credit after the student has earned a B- or better in the MSAT course during their first year in the MSAT program.
Keep in mind that if you have already completed the listed undergraduate course, you will not receive experiential credit for the course when you complete the graduate course requirements. Completion of the undergraduate RHS course does not waive the MSAT course requirement.
MSAT courses and their corresponding RHS courses are listed by the semester that students take the MSAT course.
