Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Sciences

As a rehabilitation sciences major, you’ll prepare for graduate studies in athletic training, occupational therapy, physical therapy, physician's assistant, chiropractic, or medical school or one of many additional employment fields while gaining a strong foundation in orthopedics and working one on one with professionals.

Students in our program learn from experienced instructors, who thoroughly understand the industry, in flexible course delivery formats. Graduates report high rates of satisfaction with the curriculum and program.

The Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Sciences will focus on core competencies that will help guide you into graduate school, including:

The average starting salary for this degree varies greatly depending on location, experience level, and choice of employment.

Students who graduate from this program will not be eligible to take the Board of Certification (BOC) exam to become a certified athletic trainer until they also complete the Master of Science in Athletic Training program.

PREREQUISITE COURSES

Examine the prerequisite course information carefully. Students who fail to meet admission requirements will not be allowed to enroll in 4000-level rehabilitation sciences courses.

Students must complete 25 credit hours overall with a minimum 3.0 overall grade point average (GPA) to be eligible to apply to the rehabilitation sciences program. Of these 25 credits, students must complete all courses in the "Required Courses" section, one course in the "Choose One Course" section, and one of the options in the "Science Electives" section.

DEGREE REQUIREMENTS

All degree requirements for a Bachelor of Science in Rehabilitation Sciences are listed in the WSU Catalog. Work with an advisor for recommended courses for the rehabilitation sciences program and graduate program preparation, and recommended electives.

RETENTION REQUIREMENTS

After students are selected for the program, retention in the program will be based on the following retention criteria:

Students who fail to meet the retention criteria will be placed on probation in the rehabilitation sciences major for one semester. If standards are not met by the end of the probationary period, the student may be dismissed from the major at the discretion of the program director.

Repeating Courses

  • Students who receive any grade below a B- in a rehabilitation sciences major course must repeat that course, and receive a grade of B- or higher to remain in the major.
  • Students who receive any grade below a C in a rehabilitation sciences support course or elective must repeat that course, and receive a grade of C or higher to remain in the major.
  • Failure to repeat a course (when offered) will result in dismissal from the program at the discretion of the program director.

PROGRAM APPLICATION

Applications will be accepted within the first four weeks of each semester. Application deadlines are: 

  • Fall semester admission: July 1
  • Spring semester: Oct. 1
  • Summer semester: Feb. 1
