2-Semester PN to RN Program Admission & Selection

• GPA: Cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) for all college-level work.

  • Applicants may have a 2.5 to 3.0 cumulative GPA if they have 2 or more years of full-time work experience as an LPN (or 3 years part-time) and the applicant’s nursing GPA (nursing only courses) is at or above a 3.0 GPA.

2-semester PN to RN program applicants must be a licensed practical nurse or have successfully graduated from an accredited practical nursing program and be eligible for licensure. 

Prerequisite Courses, Support Courses, and Bonus Courses

Refer to the University Catalog for additional general education requirements that must be completed for the Associate of Science (AS) degree. 

Prospective students who want to transfer course credits from other institutions will need to visit the Course Transfer Guide.

Applicants who do not meet the minimum application requirements will not have their applications reviewed by the Admissions and Advancement Committee. Unqualified students will not receive re-applicant credit for the following application cycle.

The 2-semester PN to RN program does not have a set number of available positions each application cycle. This program accepts students to fill open positions on five campuses. The cohorts are WSU Ogden, WSU Davis, Hybrid, DTech (Kaysville), and B Tech (Logan). Applicants can rank preferred campuses. Campus placement will be awarded based on applicant points.

• The ADN Department partners with the Bridgerland Technical College (Btech) and Davis Technical College (Dtech) PN programs, offering graduating students a direct pathway for students to earn an Associate of Science (AS) or an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in the 2-semester PN to RN program.

  • This option is only open to current BTech and DTech students. If admitted, students will be enrolled at WSU, but will take nursing courses at the BTech or DTech campuses. 

• The ADN Department partners with the Ogden-Weber Technical College (OTech) PN program, offering a direct pathway for students to earn an Associate of Science (AS) or an Associate of Applied Science (AAS) degree in the 2-semester PN to RN program.

  • This is only open to current OTech students. If admitted, students will be enrolled in the WSU Hybrid cohort at the WSU Ogden campus.

Bridgerland Technical College (BTech) 2-Semester PN to RN Program: The application link will be emailed to students currently enrolled in the BTech PN program

Davis Technical College (DTech) PN to RN Program: The application link will be emailed to students currently enrolled in the DTech PN program

Ogden-Weber Technical College (OTech) PN to RN Program: The application link will be emailed to students currently enrolled in the OTech PN program

Application for those who have completed Practical Nursing education and are licensed or eligible for PN licensure (and are not currently enrolled at BTech, DTech, or OTech) (link will be here when it’s open for admission)

3. Notification

Acceptance and declination notifications will be sent to the provided email address approximately 4 to 6 weeks after the application deadline. 

Campus placements are assigned on a first-come, first-served basis in response to the acceptance email. A Weber email address and W# are required to submit your response and request a specific campus. To help speed up the process, it’s recommended that applicants apply to Weber State University before receiving an acceptance or declination notice.

Didactic courses are offered face-to-face or online, depending on the selected campus. All students are required to attend lab and simulation on campus. All clinical rotations will be completed along the Wasatch Front. 

• For the cohorts at WSU Ogden, WSU Davis, Bridgerland Technical College (Btech), and Davis Technical College (Dtech) campuses, students are expected to attend class and lab, sim, or clinical 2 to 3 days per week.
• The Hybrid cohort completes didactic courses online and attends campus 1-2 days per week for lab, simulation, or clinical.
• This does not include exams that are taken outside of class time. All exams for the ADN Department must be taken in person at an approved testing location.

The ADN Department places group clinical rotations in clinical facilities in Utah, from Logan to Salt Lake City. Capstone rotations can be completed across the state of Utah. Students are responsible for transportation to all classes, simulations, labs, exams, and clinical activities.

All admitted applicants will be required to complete a mandatory background check, drug screening, and physical exam. Students are also required to have personal health insurance. Admission to the program is contingent upon submission of a satisfactory background check, a negative drug screening, a physical exam, and documentation of personal health insurance.

• If a background check reveals a history of criminal actions, or the drug screen reveals the presence of controlled substances (prescription or non-prescription), the applicant understands that they may not be allowed to begin or remain in the ADN Program and will not be entitled to any refunds of tuition dollars or other fees.

• Currently, Medical Marijuana Cards are not accepted by all of our clinical partners and, therefore, will not be accepted by The School of Nursing. Any applicant testing positive for Marijuana, even with a Medical Marijuana card, will not be cleared to start the program.

• Complete Student Documentation Requirements can be found in the Annie Taylor Dee School of Nursing Student Handbook. These requirements are mandatory. Costs associated with requirements are the students' responsibility. Some costs may be covered by WSU student health services.
