Welcome to the Teacher Education Department. Teaching has
been called “the noblest profession.” It has also been called “the profession
that teaches all the other professions.” Teaching is a demanding, but rewarding
profession. Former U.S. Secretary of Education Shirley Hufstedler stated: “The
role of the teacher remains the highest calling of a free people.”
The Teacher Education Department has been accredited by the
National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). All of our
programs are designed to prepare pre-service elementary, secondary, and special
education teachers to meet the Interstate New Teacher Assessment and Support
Consortium (INTASC) standards. Upon completion of our programs, students will demonstrate
the knowledge, skills, and dispositions needed to be effective and successful
entry-level teachers.
Our dedicated and
diverse faculty and staff are here to help you achieve your goals. We have
extensive experience working in the public school system, and we have
structured our courses and field experiences to provide you with the knowledge
and skills to become an effective teacher. Please visit the links on this
