Reimagining General Education

Gen Ed Teaching Transformation Fellows Coaching Program

Building on last year's Innovation & Improvement grants, we are entering an exciting new phase of supporting faculty professional development. General Education has partnered with Alee Lee (CETL Classroom Coaching Fellow) to launch the Gen Ed Teaching Transformation Fellows Coaching Program. This program brings together 8 faculty fellows—one representing each core and breadth area—to pioneer student-centered pedagogies and make durable skills explicitly visible in our classrooms. The program is a tiered, manageable support model across two semesters (see Timeline below). Fellows are building stronger, active, and student-centered Gen Ed instruction, and becoming curriculum leaders in the Gen Ed program. We are expanding the focus from content knowledge (GELO 1) to more holistically considering that knowledge in a broader context of learning and skill development (reflected in GELOs 2-4, see here).

Gen Ed Teaching Transformation Fellows Coaching Program led by Alee Lee (CETL Coaching Fellow) and Leigh Shaw (Director of Gen Ed). There are three core fellows and five breadth fellows representing each core and breadth area of general education.

Timeline

  • Fall 2026 (Learn & Map): Fellows will meet monthly on Fridays to participate in specialized professional development using the CETL Coaching model. Alongside Leigh (Director of Gen Ed) and Alee (CETL Coaching Fellow), Fellows will train to become campus leaders in durable skill development and build a curriculum map showcasing assignments that develop these skills in their GE area.

  • Spring 2027 (Lead & Share): Fellows will guide a small collaborative "pod" of faculty peers in their core/breadth area, facilitating peer coaching to review and enhance teaching practices campus-wide.
