Administering Paper Exams in the Testing Center

All paper exams must have a "shell" quiz created in Canvas so the exam will be available in the Testing Center check-in system. The testing center cannot administer tests unless this record of the exam details has been provided and staff can identify which students are intended to take the test.

Administering Paper Exams in the Testing Center

  1. Create a Classic Shell Quiz in Canvas
    • Use standard naming convention for paper exams (EX: ENG 1010 Exam 1, MATH 1030 Final, etc.)
    • The Canvas shell quiz should include a single question to allow a manual grade which can be applied once the test has been completed.
    • The Canvas shell quiz must be published with an access code and a “from” and “until” date to be available in the Testing Center. A due date does not have any effect on test availability.
  2. Follow the directions on the Administering Exams in the Testing Center page to make the exam available in the testing center.
  3. Complete the Paper Test Contract and drop off paper exam copies at your chosen testing center location(s)
    • Test copies should be numbered and include instructor name, course name, and exam name.
