Globally, sustainability is rapidly becoming the most salient topic of conversation and issue of our times. Each day, we are inundated with headlines and accounts of various forms of environmental degradation such as oil spills, air pollution, deforestation, species extinction and melting glaciers. Frequently we are warned about the consequences of inaction and maintaining the status quo. To halt and reverse these dire forecasts, it has become evident that mankind must rapidly embrace a sustainable lifestyle and adopt sustainable business practices.
Confronting and dealing with these environmental challenges can seem daunting. Regardless, Universities across the world are choosing to view these challenges as opportunities and are leading the way towards a sustainable future. Weber State University is no exception. Beginning in 2006, Weber State has aggressively implemented a number of energy efficiency projects and programs across its campus, ranging from lighting upgrades, to the construction of a new energy efficient chiller plant. Thus far, these projects and programs have reduced the University’s carbon footprint by 8,677 metric tons per year. View WSU's latest annual climate report.
In addition to conserving and reducing the University’s energy consumption, WSU has worked to reduce water consumption, reduce waste generation, encourage the use of alternative transportation, and incorporate the principles of sustainability into all new construction.
