Zoology Research, Internships, and Job Opportunities

The following are some great resources for finding internships, research opportunities, and jobs.

Weber State University Career Services

Career Services works hard to provide all WSU students with the resources needed to prepare for, find, interview for, and gain employment. Every student should be exploring their site and taking advantage of their excellent opportunities.

Search Job Opportunities On Campus

Please see the Weber State University Job Board for positions on campus. You can search for positions that may be open in the Department of Zoology by choosing "25700 - Zoology" from the list of options in the department field and then clicking on the "Search" button.

Internship & Job Search Sites

Here are some great internship & job search sites for zoology majors. These include both paid and unpaid positions. We've set the search criteria (within each link and where applicable) to a zoology-related field. You may wish to proceed to the home page and make a new search.

Federal Internships and Jobs for Recent Grads

Internship Programs

The Pathways Internship Program, along with other available options, offers students from high school to the graduate level paid opportunities to explore federal careers while still in school. Interns gain hands-on experience directly related to their field of study and are eligible for non-competitive conversion to a permanent civil service position upon successful completion of the program and their degree requirements.

Recent Graduates Program

The Pathways Recent Graduates Program offers a structured, year-long developmental experience for those who have completed a degree or certificate within the last two years. Veterans may have an expanded eligibility window of up to six years following graduation. This program is designed to launch your career in the Federal Government through specialized training and mentorship, with the potential to lead to a permanent career.

Post-Graduate Work and Service Opportunities

The Peace Corps offers unique opportunities for Zoology graduates to apply their technical skills in environmental conservation and agriculture sectors worldwide. Volunteers commit to 27 months of service, often working on projects related to wildlife protection, resource management, or environmental education. Participants may be eligible for student loan forgiveness and receive a transition allowance upon completion.

AmeriCorps programs like NCCC and VISTA provide a year of service focused on community development and environmental stewardship. For science majors, this can include field-based conservation work or managing sustainability projects. Upon finishing a term of service, members receive the Segal AmeriCorps Education Award to pay for existing student loans or future graduate studies.

Teach For America recruits recent graduates to teach in high-need schools, providing a pathway for Zoology majors to share their passion for biology and the life sciences. This two-year commitment includes a full salary, comprehensive benefits, and specialized teacher certification training. It is an excellent route for those interested in scientific communication or education.

A part of the AmeriCorps network, City Year places graduates in schools to support student success through mentorship and academic tutoring. While broadly focused on education, Zoology graduates can play a vital role as "Student Success Coaches" in STEM subjects, helping to bridge the gap in science literacy for at-risk youth.

Partners In Health focuses on global health accessibility, providing clinical and social support in some of the world's most vulnerable communities. Zoology graduates with an interest in epidemiology, One Health, or public health can find engagement opportunities that explore the intersection of human, animal, and environmental health.
