Mechanical Engineering and Professional Sales: Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, France

Program Details

The EAST PS and ME Study Abroad 2026 program offers an immersive international experience across the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, and France from April 29 to May 16, 2026. Based primarily at FH Aachen University of Applied Sciences in Germany, this interdisciplinary program connects students from Professional Sales, Mechanical Engineering, and Mechanical Engineering Technology to study global engineering, sustainability, and communication. Through coursework, site visits, and collaboration with European peers, participants explore how sustainability and cultural context influence design, product development, and professional communication. The program emphasizes hands-on learning and cross-cultural understanding to prepare students for careers in international business, sales, and engineering.

Selection Criteria:

  • Must be enrolled in one of the approved majors: Professional Sales, Mechanical Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering Technology.
  • Must have completed the appropriate prerequisite courses for enrolled classes.
  • Must be in sufficient physical condition to travel internationally and walk at least five miles per day without assistance.
  • Must be able to participate fully in all scheduled coursework and site visits.
  • Maximum group size: 25 students.

Deposit: $500 

Deposit is due 72 hours after registration. If not paid in that timeframe, you may be dropped from your trip.

Payments can now be made online! Visit this website for instructions on how to pay your deposit online and future payments. Charges should show on your account within 24 hours after registration. As always, you can pay with a credit card as well. To keep our trip costs low, we encourage the use of ACH Bank Transfers, or payments by cash or check whenever possible.

Included: airfare, insurance, tuition, apartment-style accommodation, and some meals.

Not included: passport, visa fees, incidentals, excess baggage costs, any unscheduled or local travel, and most meals.

This program supports Weber State’s sustainability goals and contributes to carbon-neutral travel initiatives.

May 4–8: Coursework at FH Aachen (9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.)
May 9: Day trip to Brussels, Belgium
May 10: Rest day
May 11–13: Coursework at FH Aachen (9:00 a.m.–1:00 p.m.)
May 13: Special lecture – Introduction to Data Visualization (1:30–2:30 p.m.)
May 14: Travel by train to Paris, France; overnight in Paris
May 15: City sightseeing in Paris; overnight in Paris
May 16: Return flight to Salt Lake City, Utah

Academic Courses

Students who participate in this study abroad program will be able to register for up to nine (9) credits through Weber State University in:

  • ENGR 2160: Materials Science and Engineering (3 credits)
  • ENGR 2165: Materials Science and Engineering Lab (1 credit)
  • PS 3250: Business Communication (3 credits)
  • PS 4920: Special Topics - Technical Sales (3 credits)
  • ME 4100 / MET 4500 - Senior Project I (3 credits)

Trip Cancellations

If Weber State cancels a trip for any reason, all participants will be refunded 100% of funds paid to the school. If a participant withdraws from the program for any reason, they are subject to the refund policy found on the first page of the application.  Deposits are always non-refundable, unless the program is canceled by Weber State.  No refunds will be issued 30 days prior to program start date.
