Program Details 

A Global Perspective with Reach: Commission on the Status of Women – United Nations is a 5-day faculty-led study abroad experience in New York City where students will engage directly with global policymakers and professionals during the 71st Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) at the United Nations. Through attendance at panel discussions, special sessions, and guided cultural activities, students will gain firsthand insight into international diplomacy, global governance, and social policy. The program integrates academic reflection, research, and action planning for students interested in global leadership, women’s issues, and social change.

Selection Criteria:

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Enrollment in POLS 4920 required.

Cost

Cost: $1,999

Deposit: $500  Deposit is due 72 hours after registration. If not paid in that timeframe, you may be dropped from your trip.

Final payment deadline: January 4th, 2027

Charges should show on your account within 24-48 hours after registration. If you want to pay with cash or check, please pay at the Hurst Center for Lifelong Learning.

Includes: insurance, tuition, room and board, local transportation abroad, excursions, and some meals.

Not included: airfare, passport, incidentals, excess baggage costs, any unscheduled travel, and some meals.

Itinerary

Itinerary subject to change

Day 1 – Travel to New York City - Depart Salt Lake City in the morning and arrive in New York City in the afternoon or early evening.  Travel to and check into Pod 39; Evening meeting required; group dinner (not paid for) optional Review New York City logistics, public transportation, safety expectations, UN access procedures, and plans for the following morning.; Student goal-setting and initial journal reflection.

Day 2 – United Nations / Commission on the Status of Women Breakfast on your own.; Meet as a group in the hotel lobby and travel/walk to the UN pass and badge distribution location. Complete UN credentialing and security procedures.; Orientation to the United Nations complex.; Attend CSW sessions, panel discussions, briefings, and related events. Lunch on your own; Faculty/student check-ins during the day. Late-afternoon group check-in, journal reflection, and discussion; Dinner on your own.

Day 3 – United Nations / Commission on the Status of Women Group breakfast will be included; Meet in the hotel lobby and travel to the United Nations. Attend selected CSW sessions, panels, and related events. Students will have opportunities to attend events connected to their individual academic and policy interests. Lunch on your own. Faculty/student check-ins throughout the day.; Late-afternoon group debrief and journal reflection. Dinner on your own.; Evening CSW events may be attended when appropriate.

Day 4 – United Nations / Commission on the Status of Women Breakfast on your own; Meet in the hotel lobby and travel to the United Nations. Attend CSW sessions, panels, briefings, and related events.  Lunch on your own. Faculty/student check-ins and academic reflection.mLate-afternoon group debrief.; Group dinner will be included.

Day 5 – Final Program Activities and Return Following the trip, students will participate in a post-program class or Zoom debrief to reflect on the experience, connect observations to course concepts, and discuss key themes from the Commission on the Status of Women. Students will also complete their final academic reflection assignment.

Academic Courses

Students who participate in this study abroad program will be able to register for up to three (3) semester credits through Weber State University in:

Trip Cancellations

If Weber State cancels a trip for any reason, all participants will be refunded 100% of funds paid to the school. If a participant withdraws from the program for any reason, they are subject to the refund policy found on the first page of the application.  Deposits are always non-refundable, unless the program is canceled by Weber State.  No refunds will be issued 30 days prior to program start date.
