Theatre in New York

Program Details

The Theatre in New York City program offers students the unique opportunity to see at least five live theatre productions in New York City, study historic plays like Shakespeare, and read previews/reviews of other works, culminating in group discussions and formal critiques that will determine grades based on attendance, participation, and written critiques.

The program offers THEA 4920 - Theatre Arts- Short Course for 3 credits. This course can be taken for elective credit or elective credit within a Theatre Major.  Students will receive study guides prior to the trip outlining how theatrical critiques are to be written and providing basic information regarding locations and shows.

New York City provides an excellent experience for students studying theatre because the program leader, Andrew Barratt Lewis, spends extensive time there, primarily in the Theatre District, and has a deep knowledge of the city's historical, theatrical, and practical aspects. He is also well-versed in public transportation and has connections to industry professionals who will assist with teaching.
