Cybersecurity and Scripting

Program Details 

Cybersecurity and Scripting in Finland and Estonia is a two-week international learning experience designed for students in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, and related majors. The program will take students to Helsinki, Finland, and Tallinn, Estonia, where they will explore global perspectives on cybersecurity, scripting, and network management. Students will attend lectures, hands-on labs, and cultural excursions while collaborating with peers from around the world to understand security regulations, digital ethics, and sustainable technology practices.

This immersive program combines academic rigor with real-world exploration, allowing students to experience Finland’s advanced tech ecosystem and Estonia’s leadership in digital innovation and e-government infrastructure.

Selection Criteria:

  • Must possess a valid passport.
  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Maximum group: 30 students
  • Must be enrolled in Cybersecurity, Computer Science, or Web/UX program.
  • Must have completed prerequisite courses from CYBR 3300 and/or CS 3030.
  • Must attend pre-departure orientation and complete assigned coursework.

  • Helsinki, Finland
  • Tallinn, Estonia

Cost

Cost: $2,185

Deposit: $100  Deposit is due 72 hours after registration. If not paid in that timeframe, you may be dropped from your trip.

Payments can now be made online! Visit this website for instructions on how to pay your deposit and future payments online. Charges should show on your account within 24-48 hours after registration. If you want to pay with cash or check, please pay at the Hurst Center for Lifelong Learning.

Need a passport? Visit the Weber Passport Office for application information and appointments.

Includes: insurance, tuition, room and board, local transportation abroad, excursions, and some meals.

Not included: airfare, visa fees, passport, incidentals, excess baggage costs, any unscheduled travel, and some meals.

This program supports Weber State’s sustainability goals and contributes to carbon-neutral travel initiatives.

  • April 17: Program orientation
  • May 4: Classes begin (on campus at Weber State University)
  • July 17: Pre-trip orientation
  • July 29 (Wed): Depart Salt Lake City for Helsinki, Finland
  • July 30 (Thu): Arrive in Helsinki, city/campus orientation, metro passes
  • July 31 (Fri): City and campus orientation continues
  • August 1 (Sat): Walking tour of Helsinki and group dinner
  • August 2 (Sun): Rest day
  • August 3–7 (Mon–Fri): Classes during the day; evenings free for exploration and collaboration
  • August 8 (Sat): Ferry trip to Tallinn, Estonia
  • August 9 (Sun): Free day
  • August 11 (Tue): Free day
  • August 12 (Wed):Depart Helsinki and arrive in Salt Lake City
  • August 14: Course ends

Academic Courses

Students who participate in this study abroad program will be able to register for up to eight (8) semester credits through Weber State University in:

  • CYBR 3300 - Advanced LAN Security Management (4)
  • CS 3030 - Scripting Languages (4)

Trip Cancellations

If Weber State cancels a trip for any reason, all participants will be refunded 100% of funds paid to the school. If a participant withdraws from the program for any reason, they are subject to the refund policy found on the first page of the application.  Deposits are always non-refundable, unless the program is canceled by Weber State.  No refunds will be issued 30 days prior to program start date.
