An Immersive, Intercultural Experience

Program Details 

China: An Immersive, Intercultural Experience is a 14-day study abroad program that takes students across Beijing, Huangshan, Hangzhou, and Shanghai. This course provides students with a deep understanding of Chinese culture, history, communication practices, and organizational dynamics through guided tours, university collaborations, company visits, and interactive cultural experiences. Students will gain firsthand insight into how culture influences communication and organizational behavior in one of the world’s most dynamic nations.

Selection Criteria:

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Must be in good physical condition; the program includes a significant amount of urban and rural walking.
  • Open to undergraduate and graduate students.
  • Group size: Minimum 15 ~ Maximum 24 participants

Destination:

  • Beijing, Huangshan, Hangzhou, and Shanghai, China

May 14th – May 28th, 2026

Cost

Cost: $4700 (airfare is included)

Deposit: $500  Deposit is due 72 hours after registration. If not paid in that timeframe, you may be dropped from your trip.

Payments can now be made online! Visit this website for instructions on how to pay your deposit and future payments online. Charges should show on your account within 24-48 hours after registration. If you want to pay with cash or check, please pay at the Hurst Center for Lifelong Learning.

Includes: airfare, insurance, tuition, room and board, local transportation abroad, excursions, and some meals.

Not included: passport, visa fees, incidentals, excess baggage costs, any unscheduled travel, and some meals.

This program supports Weber State’s sustainability goals and contributes to carbon-neutral travel initiatives.

  • Pre-departure meetings: Cultural lectures, trip preparation, and logistics
  • Day 0: Depart Salt Lake City
  • Day 1: Arrive in Beijing
  • Day 2: Forbidden City, Temple of Heaven
  • Day 3: Great Wall, Bird’s Nest, Acrobat Show
  • Day 4: Summer Palace, rural village visit
  • Day 5: Local university collaboration, cooking class (dumplings)
  • Day 6: Media company visit, travel to Huangshan
  • Day 7: Mt. Huangshan hike and exploration
  • Day 8: Hongcun Village, travel to Hangzhou
  • Day 9: Dragon Well Tea Plantation, Lingyin Temple, Hefang Street
  • Day 10: West Lake, rail to Shanghai, The Bund
  • Day 11: Cultural and media site visits, Yuyuan Garden, Shanghai Tower
  • Day 12: Free day for exploration
  • Day 13: Water town, Green Energy Automotive visit, Nanjing Road
  • Day 14: Depart Shanghai, return to SLC
  • Post-trip: One-week debrief and final assignments

Academic Courses

Students who participate in this study abroad program will be able to register for up to three (3) semester credits through Weber State University in:

  • COMM 3080 (3) : Intercultural Communication 
  • MPC 6450 (3) : Advanced Organizational Communication

Trip Cancellations

If Weber State cancels a trip for any reason, all participants will be refunded 100% of funds paid to the school. If a participant withdraws from the program for any reason, they are subject to the refund policy found on the first page of the application.  Deposits are always non-refundable, unless the program is canceled by Weber State.  No refunds will be issued 30 days prior to program start date.
