Commission on the Status of Women - United Nations

 

Program Details 

A Global Perspective with Reach: Commission on the Status of Women – United Nations is a 5-day faculty-led study abroad experience in New York City where students will engage directly with global policymakers and professionals during the 70th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) at the United Nations. Through attendance at panel discussions, special sessions, and guided cultural activities, students will gain firsthand insight into international diplomacy, global governance, and social policy. The program integrates academic reflection, research, and action planning for students interested in global leadership, women’s issues, and social change.

Selection Criteria:

  • 18 years of age or older.
  • Minimum 3.0 GPA.
  • Enrollment in POLS 4920 or WGS 4920 required.
  • Must meet with Dr. Speicher before departure to ensure readiness for rigorous academic and travel schedule.
  • Group size: maximum 9 students.
  • Students with a dietary needs should coordinate with the program leader prior to travel.

Cost

Cost: $2200

Deposit: $500  Deposit is due 72 hours after registration. If not paid in that timeframe, you may be dropped from your trip.

Payments can now be made online! Visit this website for instructions on how to pay your deposit and future payments online. Charges should show on your account within 24-48 hours after registration. If you want to pay with cash or check, please pay at the Hurst Center for Lifelong Learning.

Includes: insurance, tuition, room and board, local transportation abroad, excursions, and some meals.

Not included: airfare, passport, incidentals, excess baggage costs, any unscheduled travel, and some meals.

This program supports Weber State’s sustainability goals and contributes to carbon-neutral travel initiatives.

Feb 23rd, 2026: Pre-trip meeting via Zoom – review logistics and expectations

Mar 9th, 2026: Fly from Salt Lake City to New York City; check in at Pod 39 Hotel; orientation, dinner, and goal-setting session

Mar 10th, 2026: UN pass distribution; UN security check and orientation; attend sessions/panels; afternoon check-ins; journal reflections

Mar 11th, 2026: Group breakfast; attend CSW sessions and events; evening panels and reflections

Mar 12th, 2026: Attend CSW sessions; group dinner and journaling

Mar 13th, 2026: Final sessions at UN; depart for Salt Lake City in the evening

Academic Courses

Students who participate in this study abroad program will be able to register for up to three (3) semester credits through Weber State University in:

  • POLS 4920 (3) 
  • WGS 4920 (3)

Short Courses, Workshops, Institutes, and Special Programs (1–3 credits)

Maximum of 3 credits per student (Elective Credit)

Trip Cancellations

If Weber State cancels a trip for any reason, all participants will be refunded 100% of funds paid to the school. If a participant withdraws from the program for any reason, they are subject to the refund policy found on the first page of the application.  Deposits are always non-refundable, unless the program is canceled by Weber State.  No refunds will be issued 30 days prior to program start date.
