President
Emmett Busby
Sophomore | Major: Political Science, Minor: Chemistry
As a leader, I strive to be straightforward with my leadership, learning as I go and being empathetic. My philosophy is to Be Forward, Friendly, and a Follow-Worthy Fella!
Goals:
- PROMOTE TRANSPARENCY: The general student doesn’t know the things happening in WSUSA, even if those things affect them. I will promote, through WSUSA, posting the things that we are doing as leaders, on a bi-weekly basis, so the students know what’s actually happening in regards to them.
- VOICE STUDENT CONCERNS: I will make and maintain connections with each department on campus, so that when a student requires something from one of those departments, they have a direct pipeline to get what they need.
- EASIER FINANCIAL AID FOR STUDENTS: Weber State strives to be the most affordable university in the state, and prides itself on graduating students with little to no student debt. Financial Aid isn’t always easy for students to navigate, though, and many students aren’t aware of the opportunities available to them. I will be working with the Financial Aid department to ensure that students are receiving the aid they need, without needing to go through multiple hoops to get there.
-
BUILD CONNECTIONS: Weber State isn’t the only University in the state, and we all need to hold each other up. With things happening in Higher Education, it’s important to maintain good relationships and work together with the leadership of other universities to help us all be the best universities we can be, and I will foster those relationships.
Qualifications:
- LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE: I currently serve as the College of Science Senator, through which position I represent the student body majoring in the College of Science, and sponsor and vote on resolutions and funding requests. I also serve as the College of EAST Fellow through the Richard Richards Institute, through which position I promote leadership and internship opportunities to students, specifically those in the College of EAST.
- CAMPUS KNOWLEDGE: I’m employed as an Admissions Ambassador on campus, a job which requires extensive knowledge of the University as a whole and all of the specific departments and campus resources. Through this knowledge I have been able to point students towards the resources available to them when they need assistance.
- SCHOOL SPIRIT: Being an Admissions Ambassador gives me a great platform to promote Weber State to prospective students, and I do so through Recruitment Events, visiting surrounding High Schools, and utilizing Social Media campaigns to boost our student body. Showing off how amazing Weber is is the best part of the job! On top of that, I am a member of the Destruction Zone, the student section at our sports games, where I get to cheer on our Weber State Athletes and wear as much Purple as possible!
-
ENCOURAGING AND FRIENDLY: As an Ambassador, Senator, Fellow, and even just as a student, I have encouraged people to apply themselves around the university. I’ve helped people to join clubs, organizations, the student section, leadership positions, etc.. Through my leadership positions, I have been able to learn that being friends with my fellow students is the best way to build important relationships and foster a community where students want to be.

College provides advantageous tools for students, but bringing greater attention to these tools is needed. Because of this, I will advocate for innovative methods of enhancing student engagement within CSBS.
Goals:
- My main goal as a Student Senator is first and foremost the voices and concerns of the student body, and to communicate your needs to the university. I will have regular meetings with college mentors and leadership to foster better support towards the success and development of students. In stride with this effort, I will be your liaison and voice within the College of Social & Behavioral Sciences.
- I believe student success comes from student preparedness and my aim is to help prepare students for the world beyond Weber. One of the most rewarding methods to develop preparedness is building your network of connections because of the rich resources it brings. I am currently working to bring more internship opportunities to Weber State by establishing stable connections between the university and career professional mentors as a student and your senator.
- Each student brings their own unique, vital qualities to Weber State and they deserve to be celebrated for the vibrancy they offer. As well as handling internal conflict and conflict resolution skills, which serve to better equip me with the tools needed to be your Student Senator.
