Equity, Diversity & Inclusion
Purpose:
The WSU, SAS- EDI Committee is a collective voice that facilitates a culture within SAS where equity,
diversity and inclusion (EDI) are respected and intentionally valued. We will accomplish this by fostering
thoughtful, practical, iterative and innovative strategies that serve as the model for our division, within
WSU’s equity framework.Specific initiatives for 2023-2024:
- Lead SAS Division in a summer EDI book challenge.
- Work with the Vice President for EDI’s office to develop a division-wide training program focused on equity and social justice.
- Develop a three-tier diversity related training structure to capture staff at various levels of understanding.
- Bring diversity initiatives on Ogden Campus and Davis Campus closer and develop more cohesion.

Professional Development
Purpose:
- Plan, implement, and assess specific staff development programs based on the committee mission, core competencies, division priorities, and staff requests for additional training.
- Continue to review Student Access and Success (SAS) staff development models at other universities and develop innovative delivery methods for professional development in the division.
- Explore means of aligning WSU-SAS core competencies with the ACPA/NASPA professional competency areas.
- Seek to strengthen the sense of community and purpose within the Division.
Specific initiatives for 2023-2024:
- Plan and facilitate monthly SAS Professional Development meetings
- Panel discussions, including new positions in SAS, campus adviser roles, etc.
- Annual Self-Care event in January.
- Additional meeting topics and staff-development opportunities, TBD.

Student Employment
Purpose:
- Refine the student employee training program for the division as well as student employee policies.
- Coordinate and standardize critical elements of student employment across the Division by embracing such issues as position descriptions, pay scales, opportunities for advancement, etc.
- Continue the collaboration between the Student Access and Success (SAS) Student Employment Program and the University 50/50 Employment Funding Program.
- Plan the Get SET training.
Specific initiatives for 2023-2024:
- Moving forward, this committee needs to figure out how we are going to bridge the gap between student supervisors and career services when it comes to the career readiness program and what our goals are with that. As the career readiness program continues to find its footing, the committee will be instrumental in training supervisors and compiling data.
- Create an “expansion plan” that lays out the process to be used to include student employees who work in divisions other than student affairs.

Awards & Recognition
Purpose:
- Explore and recommend ways to acknowledge and celebrate the accomplishments of our talented Division of Student Access and Success (SAS) staff.
- Fairly and equitably administer the SAS Outstanding Performance Award Program. This includes managing the awards process and recommending award winners to the Vice President for Student Access and Success for presentation at the annual spring awards ceremony.
Specific initiatives for 2023-2024:
- Encourage division participation in Builders of Excellence program.
- Refine division award criteria and create mechanism for passing information from chair to chair.
- Explore additional recognition opportunities for SAS staff.

Scholarships & Waivers
Purpose
- Steward the funds provided to the Division of Student Access and Success (SAS) in the areas of tuition activity waivers and student scholarships.
- Review internal policies and procedures related to scholarships and waivers, and assist those in the division with adhering to new and existing guidelines.
- Assist with allocation of funds among the various units of the division and make decisions about reallocation of any remaining funds.
- Work with departments to identify student learning outcomes, create methods for helping students acquire these skills and abilities, and help ensure that appropriate measurements of learning are in place.
Specific initiatives for 2023-2024:
- Continue to openly, and proactively work with the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office to address potential issues with new financial awards and criteria being implemented.
- Actively discuss, as a committee, the potential repercussions from the new award limitations (125%)..
- Work with other departments and areas across campus to find positive solutions that will continue to financially support WSU students, and also keep them engaged at high levels on campus.
- Any unused waiver awards should be offered to other departments who are not currently receiving funding, but have created new engagement and leadership positions for students in their departments. This effort can actively contribute to the division’s goal of retaining students through engagement opportunities on campus.
- Proactively urge students to complete their FAFSA and Scholarship Applications as early as possible in the academic year. This will help the committee with being able to meet the waiver award deadlines (such as May 1) and continue to work cohesively with the Financial Aid and Scholarships Office.
- Department websites and information regarding scholarships and waivers within each area can continue to be updated on a yearly basis.
